  Nicolas Cage's Acting...5 Stars...Movie...1 Star
Review created: 03/19/06

It may be the fact that I had already been disappointed by several slow movies the week that I watched Weather Man, but I was left wondering....why did anyone ever want to make a movie about a weather man? What was the purpose of this movie?

The screenplay writer must have had a messed up childhood and a vendetta against weather men (maybe he lived in Chicago where sun, snow, and rain are predicted all in the same day...) because this film should never have been filmed.

Nicolas Cage is always a good actor and made many parts of the movie entertaining but the movie as a whole was 2 Thumbs Down.

The Weather Man - Critics are Too Harsh... Its Dark Fun
Review created: 03/27/06

I really believe that the Weather Man has gotten a raw deal from critics. The acting is tremendous and the plot is well developed and very well written. Nicholas Cage delivers a strong performance - as always - and does an excellent job delivering the brutally dark comedic and sarcastic lines. Really a great film that is as enjoyable, dark comedy - 5/5

The Weather Man DVD Cast:
Gil Bellows, Hope Davis, James Levine, Michael Caine, Michael Rispoli, Nicholas Hoult, Nicolas Cage

If you have a dry sense of humor, then this is the movie for you. If you don't, then it's not. Personally I thought this movie was pretty funny, and Cage's performance was exceptional.

If you’re looking for an escape, this isn't it

Not everyone will like this movie. It does move slowly and borders on being boring, but it’s about real life. Life isn’t always exciting and it doesn’t always have happy endings. Now if you’re looking for an escape from real life, than this isn’t the movie for you. I kind of liked it for it’s simplicity and Nicolas Cage is always great.

You have to be intelligent to understand this movie

This movie isn't a happy go lucky story where all the characters have fake happy lives and everyone lives happily ever after. So if you are looking for a fake movie, look somewhere else. BUT it's real and it's raw to the core about a man who has yet to find himself and who he is as a person, while struggling with day to day problems with life and family. His insecurities and unhappiness at his failures is something almost everyone can relate to at one point or another.

Nick Cage offers such a tremendous performance bringing a character alive that is REAL, and we can see his pain and understand his need for acceptance, which is genuine and cares deeply for his children. The emotion, photography, metaphors and artistic screen plays are amazing and I was blown away by how well it was all put together. There are tiny things like repetitive shapes and colors that to the normal average viewer go unappreciated. The photography and feel of the movie is powerful.

I rented it thinking it might be lame, and I am going out to buy the movie full price because it's worth every penny. If you’re looking for a feel good flick which takes no intelligence to watch, then this isn’t the movie for you. You have to have respect and understanding for the art of film making and design to truly understand everything this movie has to offer. It was fabulous.

We didn't like this movie at all. It was extremely slow, dull and exceptionally boring. We kept wondering when it was going to end. Not the best movie for Cage. We were excpecting better.

  The Weather Man (2006, DVD)

This movie is rated R and running time is 101 minutes. Nicolas Cage stars as David Spritz a highly paid weatherman in Chicago. He doesn't get much respect from his neighboring audience and is often hit by flying fast food. David is divorced and struggles to be a meaningful part of his children's lives as his wife introduces her fiance into the picture. His father(Michael Caine) hopes for more from him and is often his adviser. He is really disappointed in his life and fed up, his only outlet is archery and scaring the people hitting him with fast food. As it is David works hard to make changes to bring happiness into the life of his family. This movie takes a close look at how hard it can be to have a meaningful life in the fast lane. Special features include Becoming a Weatherman, Atmospheric Pressure, Trade Winds and more.

I am a big Nicholas Cage fan and I never saw this movie. It was a really different movie for him to do. He played a very thought provoking part, I thought he did a great job of it. While the movie is a little slow moving it makes its mark. I liked it, not his best but it showed a different side to his acting. I recommend it to any Cage fans out there.

The Weather Man is a thriving professional to the eyes of many, however about him there is much more he needs to discover and this is what truly lured me into this film.
I was expecting a comedy, to have a laugh and see Nicolas Cage whose performance is usually a treat. However, the dilemmas the main character faces with his family and the situations his children encounter along the way reminded me of the tribulations most of us adults fail to admit in life. There is nothing free; there is nothing easy in growing up.
Definitely a film that made me think, reminisce and enjoy the bitter sweet situations that can happen to anyone regardless of how successful we are. It breaks stereotypes and makes us think about the people around us, what may be behind the mask.
I would definitely recommend this film, a little complex, dark and whimsical but a truly unique film.

I am usually drawn to low budget and art house type movies, so I thought I would like this one. I am Nicholas Cage fan anyway. This movie was so boring I could not even finish watching it. I kept watching long after I wanted to stop but finally just had to give up. If you are a Cage fan, I would suggest Captain Corelli's Mandolin instead.

I would say this is a great movie because it has a lot of intelligent humor in it. It's very dry and sarcastic, so if you aren't into that, you may not like this one. I especially love the part where he's discussing "camel toe" with his daughter though!! Anyway, the more you watch the movie, the more you pick up on the funny parts, i recommend it, it's a great movie. The language may be a bit harsh though, other than that, great.

The darker side of life and the struggles we endure
Review created: 07/02/09

Nicolas Cage gives us another stellar performance. Personally I do not envy him this role but his talent as an actor is what saves this movie from total destruction. I do not believe anyone else could have pulled off this performance My highest regards for Nic Cage and my reccommendations for this movie to anyone who enjoys a life struggle, tearing your life apart and putting it under a microscope to come to terms with yourself movie. Not for everyone but a good production for the type of film it is. Thank you Nicolas Cage.

  Sadly Disappointing
Review created: 06/03/09

This is a crash and burn type of film that originated with a good cast and better plot idea. It seems the script was a few edits from being where it should be. Far too choppy and pessimistic the film turned out to be.

I bought this because of trailers I'd seen, & I like Nicolas Cage & Micheal Cain in everything I've seen them in. The acting was great, but the crude remarks & language killed it for me. I'm not easily offended by language & nudity if I can see a reason, but I stopped @ about 2/3 thru it & would be embarrased to show in mixed company. This movie had the potential to be very funny, & still make a valid point,(if that was the intention), about relationships, & family. Don't waste your money or time.

What a waste of a bow and arrows...
Review created: 02/10/09

I was so exited to watch this movie when I saw the Trailer for it. But when I sit down to watch it finally, I'm expecting a guy who's fed up, walking around the city with a bow and arrow. Like the commercial said. Not so. Instead, as it so happens, this movie is actually about some boring people who like to use colorful swears. Lame.

The Weather Man - In life accuracy counts - Thumbs down
Review created: 04/08/08(updated 04/08/08)

The Weather man is a poorly written travesty of a film. It was truly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The storyline was uninteresting, slow, and repetitive, stretching a fifteen-minute story into a two-hour movie. The dialogue consists of the words "camel toe," "F***," and other nefarious curse words no less than every five minutes. Which would be fine with me if the rest of the dialog and script stood up, but unfortunately it didn't.

I don't think they would have release this without Nicolas Cage and Michael Cane being in it. They were really under-used.

I watch movies to be entertained or informed, unfortunately this one didn't do anything for me

Review created: 11/01/06

I'm sorry. I usually like Nick Cage in pretty much everything he's done. But this had to be the most pointless movie I have ever seen. I'm glad I only rented it and didn't buy it. And thank God I didn't go to see this in a theater. Of course, it probably would have been the best two hours of sleep I would have gotten that night.

  Angst in Chicago
Review created: 07/21/06
by:

"The Weather Man" should be retitled to "Angst in Chicago" or "How Many Pained Facial Expressions can Nicolas Cage Make?"

::sigh::

I was in hopes this would be a good film but it was just to painful to watch a couple of good actors wasted in this rubbish.

Nicolas Cage plays a weatherman in Chicago but he isn't really trained for it and doesn't like his job. He's lost his marriage (to Hope Davis) and has unrealistic expectations that it can be made right again. His two young teenage children are seriously messed up. He's a vast disappointment to his father (Michael Caine). He is regularly pelted with fast food as he walks down the street, He's in serious need of anger management therapy, He's chronically depressed and at a loss as to what he can do to make himself and those around him happy. And he just landed a job as the weatherman on a national morning news show out of NYC.

I was tempted to just give up on it several times but stuck with it to the end hoping the film would redeem itself. It didn't.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate dark humor and love movies with a warp but this doesn't pass in either category.
