We Were Soldiers (HD DVD, 2006)

While I am not a Mel Gibson fan (and hate the thought of a foreigner playing the leed role), I have to admit that this film is not just a great Vietnam War film, it is simply a great war film, period.

It also manages to show the enemy in an appropriate light. For in order to have a great victory, you must have fought a worthy opponent. To this end, I thought the portrayal of the NVA commanding officer was an excellent touch.

But for me, the hardest hitting moments were the letters being received by the wives of the recently fallen soldiers. While admittedly a bit 'hollywoodized', it was a great reminder of those families of soldiers, airmen and sailors who live in fear and dread every ringing of the phone or knocking of the door.

A must see movie!!

what i liked about the movie was the price and also that i knew it was a good movie from previous seem. i decided to buy it for my collection of hddvd.

HD DVD is encoded in High Definition 1080p format. The movie its sharpness, and eye-popping colors are just stunning. Black levels are inky with excellent grey shadow detail, and contrasts are deep. The movie itself is great and if you are already a fan of the DVD the HD DVD is what you want. One problem with HD is that with the HD/Blu Ray debate some stores are not stocking them until there is a clear winner. Not to worry, the store below has hundreds of HD DVDs broken down by genre:

The acting is superb in this movie. The screenplay follows what occurred in the early days of the Vietnam war. Many other units were involved in this conflict but the writers did present most of them in action. The film has great visual effects and great action shots. The character development is actually quite good. Fans of Mel Gibson should appreciate his representation of the main character. The fear and anticipation that the military wives experienced in this movie portrays their emotions splendidly. Great movie, one that will take you on a ride of different emotions. This is even better in High Def.

The picture quality jumps out at you thru my HD front projector. The DD audio completes the cinema at home experience. Its to bad HD-DVD lost the format war.
Its all about the greed of hollywood otherwise more people would have had the same experience.

It was a great movie, and to find it on HD DVD, when that format is being phased out, is incredible.

I do have to say, the shipping was reasonable, and I was extremely satisfied on how quickly I had received the purchase.

Safe to say, I will do business with this seller again.

We haven't looked at the movie yet, beacause I got it for my husband for Father's Day. This is a movie he is obsessed with, and he asked for it. Came in a timely manner.
