Those among you who may have been waiting in anxious anticipation for a Christian rock equivalent to Melissa Etheridge may breathe a deep sigh of relief thanks to the appearance of Jennifer Knapp and the success of THE WAY I AM. Knapp's mixture of folk-rock, AOR, widescreen power ballads, and straight-ahead pop-rock proves endlessly adaptable to her Christian lyrical themes. Thundering beats and strident guitars don't hamper Knapp's faith-based message. That doesn't mean you have to be in tune with the message to enjoy the music. Knapp is so skillful at executing her style that even those who often avoid Christian rock will be able to enjoy it. Those who choose to tune in to the lyrics will find a complex take on the subject enlivened by an energetic production full of craft and spirit in equal amounts.
