San Francisco trio Mi Ami seem to take a certain all-but-forgotten strain of mutant funk from the late 1970s post-punk scene as their conceptual starting point. Acts like ESG, Liquid Liquid, James Chance and the Contortions, and A Certain Ratio are Mi Ami's forebears, but the trio proffer an even more tightly constricted, edge-of-explosion feel on tracks like "Echononecho" and "The Man In Your House."
