Watchmen (DVD, 2009, Director's Cut; 2-Disc Set)

Watchmen stars Billy Crudup (Mission: Impossible III), Jackie Earle Haley (The Bad News Bears), and Matthew Goode (Chasing Liberty).

This is a dark story of an alternate america where a bunch of retired super heros set out to discover who murdered one of their kind. Along the way the discover they are all on the endangered list as someone (or something) wants to rid the world of all superheroes.

The movie is pretty dark in that it has a lot of adult type situations that may be unsuitable for younger viewers so you may want to pass on this if you have younger viewers who will watch it.

If you are into the comic book superhero type magazines, like The Dark Knight, you will absolutely love this movie as it is entertaining. The only drawback is it is rather long.

I'm surprised to hear a lot of reviews saying that this is just an action movie for teenage boys; I thought quite the opposite. There was much less action than I expected, the movie centered mostly on emotions and ideas conveyed through dialog, narration and character flashbacks. The action scenes were all fairly short, though when there was action it was delightfully innovative. There were a lot of nasty and unexpected twists like limbs snapping, guts sticking to the ceiling, bones audibly crunching... Every time something violent happened, they made it interesting and shocking rather than recreating the generic ho-hum violence of every other movie. (And there was no obligatory 30-minute-long final action scene culminating in the conclusion of the plot... oh joy! Those get so boring.) Plus, many of the scenes were rather bold for a mainstream film, and showed certain things that are normally hidden off-screen or completely avoided. The only example I feel I can give without spoiling anything is the full frontal male nudity, something that is rather conspicuously hidden in almost every Hollywood movie. This movie isn't concerned about hiding little things like that, just as it isn't concerned about hiding certain subjects that most movies wouldn't show.

This movie definitely isn't for everyone. People expecting another Dark Knight will be disappointed, as this movie is completely unique. People who want an action movie and don't want all that talking and thinking will be disappointed. But to those looking for a long, complicated, deeply moving epic that will really make them think about the very concepts of right, wrong, and heroism (and who haven't read the book, which based on other reviews seems to ruin it): Do NOT miss this movie!

I expected a lot more intensity than I was able to see in the theater...but alas, no. Not much difference at all. Still a good movie. The extras (disk 2) do not live up to a true fan's expectations either. Too much butt kissing buy the cast and crew, praising the director and so forth. All in all, a good movie to have in your collection.

Great flick just finished the book the writing is good must see, watched it twice in two days Nixon is the president three terms in a row. Great character development and the costumes are great.I watched the original release but bought the directors cut extra 20 minutes not for kids

I took the time to read all 12 issues. I recomend you do the same, the movie will be much more powerful, if you dont, well, itll just be a movie. The acting was great and the director Zak Snyder knows what he's doing. The cast was great. Especially Jeffery Dean Morgan, completley vanished in his role as the comedian! Overall, this movie was excellent, watch and enjoy!

great action movie, it would make a great comic book series because i collect comics book for over 37 years

This movie is great to begin with but once you add almost another half hour to it with the directors cut, it will truly blow you away. Five Stars

This movie ether you love it or not, it doesn’t fall in the middle like many Hollywood movies are done today. I love this movie just for its story (that if you’re a comic book geek) I cherish from when I was a kid.
Yes they made some changes from the original story, but the essences of the book are there to see. The color palette, Rorschach mask looked awesome, it was just like I imaged it would be in the movie.
But, ( I hate having a “but”) this Special Edition DVD set felt a bit flat, I wanted more special features a better behinds the scenes, a better understanding of the book, I don’t know, just more.
Again, this is for those that ether will love the movie or not. You deiced.

Very smart movie, great use of cinematic appeal. I saw the movie for the first time in the theater and knew that i just had to own it.

This movie was very slow, and I had to watch it at 1.2x speed just to have it at a good pace. The director left good things from the book out of the movie, even in the director's cut. The acting is great, but the dialogue is so wooden, that I couldn't enjoy it that much. The copy was used, but there were no problems. I enjoy having the digital copy to watch. As it is, I'd say just go get the book.

Yes this movie is long but it was worth it. I loved it when i saw it in theaters and couldnt wait to get it on dvd. Now i have the directors cut would should be better then the theater version but who knows could just be the same movie but either way i love this movie

The digital version of this move included in the 2 disc directors cut looks great on the computer however the one included for use on a portable video player or smart phone is in the wma format and you cannot convert it to a usuable format for my phone. I would rate it as a waste of time. The most usuable format is usually mp4 or 3gp not wma.

I'm a comic book/science fiction fan but had never read the Watchmen Graphic Novel so I went into this movie cold. Although it is long, I really liked it. Very dark but a great story. Rorshack was definately the best character in my opinion. Worth your time if you're a comic book or science fiction fan.

All I can say about this movie is that it's incredible. But you have to pay attention if you want to understand it, so I'd only recommend it to somebody who is actually going to pay attention to what's going on. But seriously, it's not even worth it to rent, just buy it. Also, if you want I'd read the graphic novel first but it doesn't really matter. The movie is great either way.

this is an excellent movie and worth the time to watch. this is not your ordinary comic book movie. you gotta watch this movie and enjoy the storyline and action in this movie

Movie wasn't the action adventure super hero flick that the previews alluded to. Excellent movie but somewhat misrepresented in the advertisements. Much more drama than action though the actions scenes were pretty cool!

I love Superhero\Action movies and the price was just right for my taste. I would most definantly recommend this movie to a friend and the seller as well

Easily the best of the zombie horror flicks, and far better than the new remake. George Romero try's to mimic our sheepish culture through the use of mindless zombies a different way in each film, and this time he uses the mall as a template. whats that? Yes, there is a thinly underlined message and theme to all of his works, and here the it seems he is saying that we are the real zombies. Whether this works or not doesn't seem to matter, but you can't deny the fact that the masses have become a slave to westernized materialistic ways. The music is highly synthesized, and works well in a very scary futuristic way, though some say it is out dated quite the contrary, it has only grown in the past few years to infiltrate every style of music. I love how he gives so much depth to all of the characters regardless of their role down the line, and there is never a dull moment. I don't think its possible to regret owning this movie, and if you like zombie films watch this one.
