Watchmen (DVD, 2009)

Watchmen stars Billy Crudup (Mission: Impossible III), Jackie Earle Haley (The Bad News Bears), and Matthew Goode (Chasing Liberty).

This is a dark story of an alternate america where a bunch of retired super heros set out to discover who murdered one of their kind. Along the way the discover they are all on the endangered list as someone (or something) wants to rid the world of all superheroes.

The movie is pretty dark in that it has a lot of adult type situations that may be unsuitable for younger viewers so you may want to pass on this if you have younger viewers who will watch it.

If you are into the comic book superhero type magazines, like The Dark Knight, you will absolutely love this movie as it is entertaining. The only drawback is it is rather long.

The special effects and art direction for this movie are fantastic. It's over 2 hours long, so it's not something that I would watch over and over again, but they did a fantastic job with bringing the comic to life. This is definitely not a kids movie, but anyone who ever read the comics would know that it's not for small kids in the first place.

I was skeptical of this movie when I first heard of it, I heard it was a graphic novel and a revered one at that. I never liked star wars and geeky stuff like that so I really believed this was similar to it. I decided to watch it and it turned otu to be an AMAZING MOVIE!! THe story line reels you in and you follow Rorchack and his ideas of a conspiracy its quite interesting the rest of the cast gives more aspects to the story and as simple as it may seem ( a few former superheroes)it is something much greater than that. What if a force so great threatens everything, you your family the people around you and the world as we know it what do we do, well we unite we face it for what it is and try to survive this movie demonstrates that when there is a greater force out there no matter what the differences may be in the enemies if a force greater that both combined threatens we all change our philosophy of who we are... Watch it and you'll enjoy it

I thought it was very cool. But I thought it showed way too much blue penis. Everytime the blue penis was shown I was distracted and missed much of the dialog. It was hard to understand the theme behind the blue penis.

Almost 3 hours long, this dark mystery is complex and often confusing. The back cover blurb does little to explain the plot. Background of the characters extends well into the film, often detracting from the story line. Special effects can be impressive, if connection is made with the narrative.

Perhaps a second viewing might reveal more clarity, if focus can be held for that long.

Decent flick, but I think you must have to be hardcore, borderline cultish, Watchmen fan in order to truly appreciate it. Some good and cool visual effects, but a bit slow at times and a bit predictable. Way too many shots of Dr. Manhattan's glowing blue penis for my liking.

Although, this movie is really good, it is not the kind of flic you'll want your kids to watch. It has a couple of reather "in your face" sex scenes that are definately NOT for the kiddies.

It's a great movie. The plot is exciting, but not too difficult to follow. The chemistry of all the actors is spot on. I absolutely love this movie.

Great characters, most far more realistic than any other 'hero' stories that people spin these days. Watchmen is the story of people who took justice in to thier own hands when no other hands could reach and how many paid the ultimate price for peace. Set in an alternate time line where the cold war decided to come to a head under Nixons leadership. Everyone should see it once, and those of use who identify with the movie - well, we really, really need to own it for repeated viewings.

Loved the graphic novel. Unusual, dark characters. Vicarious enjoyment of the character Rorshach's wreckless, aggression with the ultimate goal to do good.

This movie was a fantastic thriller about a alternative world set in the 1960-1980s. The plot was thoughtful, graphics were amazing and the overall movie was great. I would definitely recommend this movie, particular in Blu-Ray.

I went into watching Watchmen with high expectations based on previews and die-hard comic book reader's comments - I shouldnt have done that. Though this movie is good, its long and tries to cover too much ground.

You really have to be attentive to know whats going on as there are many characters and a lot of depth and history to most of them. I would have like to seen this movie done with less characters leaving room for a prequel or a sequel.

Other than that this movie has some great fight scenes and effects. I would buy this and add it to my DVD collection.

This movie should be about past Heros of 1940's. This movie is a good case to show what happens when left wing liberals take over. This movie is not for the family, or a decent family. Sex, Sex, and more Sex with the F words. In past United States was known for it High mortals standards, God and Country. One part in this where there having sex playing Christian music. How low can you get? I am sorry I bought it. (TRASH CAN EXPRESS) The good part. lET ME THINK ABOUT IT. I wonder if those F word producers talk to their mother, or Grandsparents like that? How you know how the world would be like with librals running the movies, and this world. I am a older timer and was raised with the real decent Heros. This movie is far from it.

never having read the comic but ever the fan of the genre i am awed by the knowledge that the story was written so long ago... music, graphics, and story are all A++... an excellent story that was obviously the inspiration behind the television series "heroes"... the sex scene inside the archimedes was weak but forgiveable...

Great movie and enjoyed the plot. Carla Gugino is just way too HOT!!!Great premise and you must be reminded that this takes place on earth in an alternate reality, for those of you who are of my age who remembered Nixon, Kissenger, JFK,Japan's Surrender, Vietnam, etc...... The first action fight scene is excellent!!!!

This was one of the best movies of the year besides Harry Potter, and an opening that has captured the best of all mediums, music, art, history. The music selection for this movie is just top notch as well, from Bob Dylan, to Simon and Garfunkel. I love the setting as well, and the little additions to how history has come to pass by means of these super heroes, Vietnam, JFK assassination, etc. Each character is developed in such depth and the story unfolds and comes together in a fascinating and marvelous way. You really get a true feel of humanity through these characters. Although they are super humans there emotions and actions are still human none the less. The difference between this film and some of Franks other work is that there is meaning to the actions and reactions here, not just a blood fest for the masses. Frank Miller has put out some real garbage, but this, this is beautiful.
