The Wastelands is book 3 in the magnificent Dark Tower series, and it just keeps getting better and better. In The Wastelands, Eddie & Susannah are truly beginning to accept their fate, or ka, as gunlingers. Even battling his beliefs, Eddie cannot deny the ka-tet and as he starts to bury his past, his part in that ka-tet becomes more and more significant.
Once again, linking our world with that of Roland of Gilead, there are no coincidences. Back in New York, ka also has a role & once again links the two worlds - something that must be done before Roland loses his sanity.
The growing group - in number and in strength - travel in the path of the beam, finally seeing signs of life, both good and bad. Roland is the last gunslinger, welcomed by those who miss the days before the world moved on and feared by the rest.
The ending of the story reaches a climax as the group meets Blaine. Blaine is a pain, that is the truth! Their wits may just determine their survival.
