Warmans...Mark Moran

Warman's was the first book that we bought for Red Wing purchases/ Resale... I use this book the most as it is a very good reference for many items and this is generally the book I take with me shopping... however as is the case with many identification catalogs, there are holes to be found here and there. We found that to best review and identify Red Wing we use this book, The Ray Reiss "bible", redwingpottery.net, and several other reference books to evaluate our items for identification/purchase/ resale. Its been our experience that when you use a variety of sources to evaluate an item, rather than putting all your faith in just one, the results tend to be closer to actual worth and it also helps a great deal when trying to date an item such as stoneware... the Reiss book helps with this a great deal... as well as lists alot of the Red Wing patterns that aren't listed elseware... the drawback to this being no pricelists. Generally.. if we can't find it in Warmans, we go to the Reiss book to properly identify it and then use the Red Wing website to establish value... I'd say that we are successful about 95% of the time this way... learned along time ago that in this business, you can never have enough books!!:>)
