Warman's Bottles Field Guide
Review created: 05/31/09(updated 05/31/09)

This is a nice book for those getting a start in bottle collecting. It gives some great bottle basics along with tips on where to look for them and how to handle them.
The book is divided into many bottle categories such as beer, bitters, blown pattern, etc. There is no real index so the reader has to get used to the categories. There is an abbreviated photo index that will lead one to the proper section.
Most of the bottles listed and pictured are not the bottles everyday diggers will be pulling out of the ground. They are primarily some of the rarer bottles one might find.
The pricing seems to be pretty accurate although there are always exceptions. A Kelly's Bitters bottle listed in the book for $400-$600 recently sold on eBay for $2,650.00. Wouldn't that be a nice surprise?
The pictures are great...crisp, clear and in full color.
The guide also lists some of the newer collectibles such as Avon, Jim Beam, and sodas.
Anice addition is the section on trademarks wnere one might be able to identify a bottle that doesn't have a lot of embossing or labels.
Another nice touch is the 10 website addresses where one may go for further information in the field.
The glossary of bottle terms will be of great assistance in understanding some of the 'lingo' used on bottle sites or conversing with another collector.
All in all, a very nice publication loaded with 511 pages of information!
