Predictable but Worth it

I read this book by HGW real "early on" I may have been 10. I loved it. I loved the silly looking one from around 1960 as well. This incarnation was predictable, and postured just a bit, but I STILL found myself in a "tense" mood watching it. It held me, and many movies don't. The cinematography is spectacular (of COURSE right, look who produced it!) Tim Robbins plays a somewhat "normal" guy who snaps when the aliens show up, and is right around the bend by the time he appears in the movie, and he turns in the best performance of the movie in my opinion.
