War of the Worlds (DVD, 2005, Full Frame)

I’m a fan of the original hokey looking original so I was leery of a remake.
When it comes to Tom Cruse you love him or hate him and I did not think this was a film for him.
But I have to say I was impressed with his acting job. I was impressed with Spielberg’s modern interpretation.
I still held close the vision and spirit of the original.
The special; Affects are overwhelming and awesome

This show was pretty intense & full of action. I wouldn't consider it a good show for kids necessarily, because of the graphic violence. I would guess that in some cases kids might have nightmares about the aliens coming to get THEM.
Other than that, I think it would have to get a thumbs up from me.

I thought that the original War of the Worlds with Gene Barry made a stronger impact on the audience when it came out. It was the first realistic science fiction movie, which broke new grounds. The current version has ordinary special effects and technology that seems to come from the '80s. Time Robbins and Dakota Fanning, however, are great in their roles.

Okay, for special effects, yeah the movie is great.
If you want to pay to listen to a little girl scream her head off for 2 hours the movie is great(that really got annoying). Come on, Dakota Fanning is a better actress than that, give her some lines.
Seriously, the movie started out great. It had an awesome premise. It lost it's luster when the only car that just so happened to work was the one that Tom Cruise and his kids jumped into when the aliens attacked. Of course they are like one of the only ones in their town to escape. Then they get to his exwife's house and the only thing to eat is what he brought in his PenzOil box...Hmmmmm.

The movie did keep moving but the inconsistencies ran amuck in this movie. Definitely not a movie that I plan on rewatching anytime soon.
One other good thing is that ending was rather heart warming AWWWWW pitter pat went my heart.

This movie is one of those sci-fi thrillers that's not very thrilling. I think my time would have been better spent if I sat on the toilet and just thought. Seriously.

Interesting movie. The acting was okay and the special effects were good. The ending was what I liked the most since it makes the most sence of the whole movie. They really don't go into a lot of things like how, what, and why the aliens are there. They just are it seems. There is some blood and gore in the mostly middle part of the movie. You almost have to watch it twice to get everything. I remember learning about this story in high school and really wasn't interested in seeing the movie but I finally did cause of Dakota Fanning is in it. If you know the story line before seeing the movie it helps a lot.

The specail effects are interesting NOT great. The acting by cruise was his usual hum ho self. That is POOR acting. At least you dont see his chicket teeth all the time like we do on the TV. That is relief. Orginal was much better then this new one. As they usually are. Dont watch unless you have LOTS of time to spare and have no problems seeing a great mediocrity of acting named Tom Cruise.

had some good special effects...enjoyed the first 20 minutes or so. bought it on impulse because it was cheap. doubt i'll ever watch it again.

Its not often that an older movie can be re-done and still be as good as the original. This is one of those rare cases, only it goes a step beyond. This is one of those 1 in 1000 instances where a re-made movie is actually better than the original. A lot of the story line has been kept somewhat true to the book, with some new twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

good to see worth the money; too sci-fi people!sound track very nice & video affects very nice! tom cruse,not so good of an actor do to be so constipated ;other people do acting in the movie are ok!

Although I'm not really a Tom Cruise fan, I thought he did a pretty good job in this movie. He portrayed his character, the divorced, single, irresponsible, lousy father to a tee! And by the end of the movie he grew up and learned what was really important.
I loved the action and the special effects. I'm a big fan of the original movie but the things they can do these days just make it so much better. What I didn't like was the way his ex-wife came off as thinking she was so much better than he, so upper crust. Hey, she married him and had two kids so there was something about him she liked! But I guess they meant for her to be like that.
I had seen the movie at the theater but I wanted to buy it because I know that there's so much you don't see or remember when you see it just one time. I've watched it twice now and I've picked up something I missed each time! I highly recommend it if you're a sci-fi fan.

I have read the H.G.Wells book a few times and hve a working knowledge of the authors vision.There have been a few remakes(including that awful 60's version)
and this one probably best displays the books idea.
I am no Tom Cruise fan by nature,but he does a good job in this story.
The graphics in this movie are really good and the sound department did a nice job of contrast in dynamics.
Most importantly is this movie,after a bit of a slow start,really has a plot that involves you in the character's fate.In the era of computer graphics movie makers seem to forget the story is still the reason a movie is embracing.I think Tim Robbins does a great job in his role and Dakota Fanning really was the gem in this movie.
"War Of The Worlds"is justifiably violent and carnage is commonplace.The ground does get painted red.The aliens are,well,"alien"(strange and unusual).
Brutality is not surprising.
To me Morgan Freeman does a master job at narration and the director's start and finish are absolutely brilliant.

This movie was purchased for my kids. They saw it and just had to have it. It as been watched so much they know it by heart. It is very thrilling and at points too graphic for young viewers. Tom Cruise was great in this moive. The computer effects were amazing and very lifelike. This is one of the must have movies for your collection.

The special effects in this movie were pretty good, but didn't really care that much for the movie itself. Was disappointed.

War Of the Worlds is a good movie. Tome Cruise plays his part well. But I still like the original version better.

This movie was action packed and full of very good special effects. But at the same time showed the frailties of human emotions. I would watch it again.

The DVD played like new. The seller shipped item quickly. I decided to purchase the movie because it was such a great deal.

This movie will always be one of my favorites. Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning are excellent actors! They put so much emotion and reality in this film that you felt like you were going through the events yourself. Keeps you on your toes and is a great movie that you can enjoy again and again. Everyone should own a copy of this film.

A good movie with a great cast of A+ actors and non-stop suspense and action. A movie you can watch several times and still enjoy if you like action movies and Tom Cruise.
