The Wanderings of Odysseus by Alan Lee

After checking this book out of the library numerous times, I finally decided that we had to own it. Rosemary Sutcliff's Wanderings of Odysseus and Black Ships Before Troy are exceptional introductions to Homer's epics for children ages 8 and older. The stories are well written, perfect for a read-aloud or for children to curl up and read by themselves. In Wanderings of Odysseus, readers will be drawn into Odysseus' fantastic adventures by Alan Lee's mesmerizing illustrations on every page. Parents of young children should be aware that some of the episodes are violent. This is not a Disney version of The Odyssey, and the illustrations could be frightening for some little ones. A pronunciation guide and a map of sites traditionally identified with the Wanderings of Odysseus are included. This volume is a visual feast for any student or adult lover of Homer's classic stories!
