A very tender love-story in true Nicholas Sparks tradition. I was able to read this book in a day and it was both entertaining and touching. Subtle humor offsets the sad parts ... though I did shed a few tears at the end!

I wanted to read the book primarily because the movie is one of my all time favorite love stories. The book did not disappoint! The movie was loosely based on the book so many things were different; however, the same lovey dovey feelings were present at the end of both. The book is just a lovely, old fashioned romance that left me breathless and completely satisfied.

  A Walk to Remember
Review created: 11/01/08

Loved it! No pretenses just good old down to earth boy meets girl, falls in love. Wasn't that easy or cut and dry. He had a lot of growing up to do. This book teaches one how you really can't judge a book by its cover. It touches all of us because the majority of us think like he does and realizes that to think like she does is how we all should think. How we are so uncapable of even relating to her because she is so pure, so right, so happy, so giving...we tend to hate those people! He learns to be like her and that he can do it and so can we...if we're strong enough and don't let what people think interfer. Know that if you follow God's way...that's it. That is the answer. Great for both boys and girls. Hear there is a movie by the same name. Going to have to rent it for sure. Hope u enjoy this book as much as I did.

  Amazingly Heartbreaking
Review created: 06/06/08

I read this book way before the movie came out, and I loved it. As the title suggests, this story is amazing, and heartbreaking all in one. It truly shows how love can conquer anything, including death. If your looking for a good cry, definitely read this. I've read it probably 100 times and every time I read it I sob like a baby, but it is a great book with an amazing plot.

Landon looks back on his life, and how it changed when he was seventeen. He is a senior in high school that year, in his small town in North Carolina. His father, a politician who is never home much, is worried about Landon getting into college with his grades and lack of activities, so he pressures Landon into running for class president. Although Landon isn't very excited about the idea, he does it and wins. That means he has to find a date for a dance on very short notice, since all class officers have to attend and Landon doesn't want to go by himself. He hadn't planned on going, and he knows most of the girls he knows already have dates. In desperation, he asks Jamie Sullivan, daughter of a local preacher whose wife died when Jamie was born.

Jamie is very odd and doesn't really have any friends at all. She is nice and sweet to everyone, and always carries around a Bible wherever she goes. She is very into religion, she volunteers at an orphanage, and all of the other high school kids think she is very strange and stay away from her. When Landon asks her to go to the dance, she agrees. The dance is a disaster from Landon's point of view, but Jamie says she had a wonderful time and is happy Landon asked her.

Later that year, Landon, one of the only two boys in the senior drama class, is chosen to be the male lead in the annual Christmas play written by Jamie's father. The female lead is played by Jamie. As they attend rehearsals, Jamie seems to like Landon more and more. She asks him to walk her home and she is always happy to see him. Landon isn't sure how he feels, especially when all of his friends are making fun of him for going out with Jamie. Then, on the night of the play, everything changes.

This story was just far too perfect. The characters fell right into line, Landon fell in love with Jamie for some unknown reason, just in time for heartbreaking tragedy. The book was cliche and a bit insulting, as the author seemed to believe he didn't have to do anything to explain why Landon would ever have fallen for Jamie. Honestly, she was so perfect and sweet and overbearingly religious, I'm not surprised nobody in her high school class liked her.

A tug at your heartstrings novel
Review created: 06/01/06

I purchases this book for my two daughters, who are both Nicholas Sparks fans. My oldest, who is 21, seen the movie A Walk to Remember and she commented about there being a book by the same title. My 16 year old has enjoyed Nicholas Sparks books ever since she read Message In A Bottle. Before I gave this book to my daughters, I had to read it for myself first! What a tear jerker. The book explains things far better than the movie did and it actually turned this mom into a Nicholas Sparks fan as well.
