There is no doubt that Walk Hard is a great parody of the musician biopic as we know it today. The film is filled with rips and references to movies such as Walk the Line and Ray. Walk Hard does all of this very well, but also has its own brand of humor and jokes that stand on their own. From the time that the opening scene rolled, I knew that I was in for a treat.

Judd Apatow and Jake Kasdan show their comedic genius throughout the movie, whether it be through clever dialog between characters or the genuinely funny original songs. The music performed by Dewey Cox does a great job of parodying various styles, from Dylan to Brian Wilson.

John C. Reilly is fantastic in his role as Dewey Cox and establishes himself as a solid leading man. I was also thoroughly impressed that he actually sang and played all of the music in the movie and did it well. Jenna Fischer's performance in Walk Hard may be just what her career needs right now. It's nice to finally see her breaking the mold that she has set for herself as Pam in The Office.

Walk Hard also featured a wide range of current and former SNL stars, such as Kristin Wiig and Chris Parnell. In addition, some of the regulars from past Apatow films are also featured, but I don't want to ruin any surprises here.

All in all, Walk Hard is a really solid comedy and a must see for any Apatow fans. If you are going to see Walk Hard, do yourself a favor and check out Walk the Line and Ray before going. It will make for a much more rewarding experience.

Dewey is a diamond in the rough

Its humor is in the spirit of slapstick comedy across the ages and will make you smile for days to come. The one-liners are aplenty and the sheer absurdity of it all is commendable.

Makes you giggle but not rumble

This movie gets right to the point about how a man became a star.... Or something like that. I thought the movie was to direct into jumping right into the story, but at least the plot wasn't confusing. Its a movie that will make you giggle or chuckle more than bust out in a rumble of laughter. I think you would be better off to rent it before you buy it, just to make sure its a keeper for you. Otherwise I would rank it a possible 7 out of 10 but a more realistic 6 out of 10.

John C. Reilly is funnier than Will Ferrell!! Tim Meadows is hilarious in this. Makes fun of all the music movies; Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, Ray, etc.
Highly Underrated!

Abundant special features make this BD release a hit.
Review created: 08/26/08

"Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" in and of itself is an awesome movie, hands down, but the extended version (entitled: "American Cox: The Unbearably Long, Self-Indulgent Director's Cut") is even better. It adds a few scenes here and there that really tie the story together. But that wasn't the reason I bought this movie on Blu-ray, nor was the 1080p resolution, or awesomely mixed 5.1 sound. The reason I bought it was for the second disc, comprised entirely of special features. I've watched everything on the disc, and let me tell you, it does not fail to please.

If you're a fan of the movie, or even of some of the actors, or the producer, Judd Apatow, you'll love this release, especially the special features.

  Is this a musicial?

There are numerous scenes in this movie that I watch over and over. The talent show at the beginning is NOT long enough but hits like a brick. Dewey's introduction to pot is some of the best satire I've seen on film, and of course Darlene's introduction to Dewey sets off a few minutes of the best double entrendres you will ever see. Also, the scene with Dewey and the Beatles is priceless.
The Blu-ray version was somewhat prettier than a torrent if you get my drift.
