Richly evocative, detailed, and touching
This book is so descriptive of a child's-eye worldview that it evoked my own nostalgia. At the same time it takes its place with the Kite Runner, Persepolis, and One Thousand Splendid Suns as a wrenching yet hopeful story of third-world revolutionary war and political strife. A richly detailed eye-opener to the struggles and courage of the victims of the vicissitudes of civic upheaval.
