I am a big Ryan Reynolds (Blade Trinity), Dane Cook, and Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers) fan. It was great seeing them all in the same movie and they all were very funny. While Justin Longs character was probably the most series of the lot, he was great in his own way. Dane Cook has a couple parts that make you wince and go "EEEWWWWW" but still very funny! Ryan Reynolds, well, he's Ryan Reynolds! So funny and great actor! The DVD also includes great special features which includes a hilarous Blooper Reel. Great movie to watch and some great laugh out loud moments!

  Waiting... (2006, DVD)

If you have ever worked in a restaurant you will howl and laugh while watching the movie Waiting. Waiting is a hilarious movie with addresses restaurant worker common place events like singing the birthday songs, workers that think they know everything about the world, the working couples who can't keep their hands off of each other, rude customers, the bitchy waitresses who turns on the charm for the customers and the infamous people who decide to come in for dinner five minutes before closing time. While some may consider this a Ryan Reynolds (Van Wilder) vehicle, its really the entire ensemble cast that makes this film a winner. Ryan is the cute guy with the wise lines, but it is the Justin Long character with the more reflective role. Justin stars in the film as a young waiter with the potential to become assistant manager at the restaurant they work at Shenanigans. He's not sure if he wants the position and is conflicted about being stuck at Shenanigans forever.

The entire cast is funny. Character actor Luis Guzman appears in the film as an oversexed kitchen worker and Chi McBride appears in the film as the dishwasher who shares his experience and insight with everyone whether they ask for it or not. Andy Milokanis has a small but hilarious role as a bus boy who aspires to be a rapper.

Waiting is the funniest comedy I have ever seen about restaurant life. It so accurately paints a picture of the young restaurant staff. The manager who lusts after a young employee, the staff who hangs our after hours, the rude customers, and most of all the conflicted feeling servers feel whether they enjoy their job or not. The Waiting unrated and raw edition features 2 discs and a host of bonus material.

Upon his arrival at Shenaniganz, a suburban chain restaurant bedecked with decorative knick-knacks, new wait staff trainee Mitch (John Francis Daley) is placed under the wing of Monty (Ryan Reynolds), a veteran who first informs his young charge that all male employees engage in a game in which the object is to get others to unwittingly look at your genitals. Unwittingly, Mitch has stumbled into a world where servers--such as angry Naomi (Alana Ubach), and coquettish Serena (Anna Faris), along with a rowdy kitchen staff--led by randy Raddimus (Luis Guzman)- Floyd (Dane Cook)-are at constant war with their demanding, low-tipping customers. Meanwhile, waiter Dean (Justin Long) must decide whether to take a promotion to manager or set out for brighter horizons beyond birthday songs and whimsically-named appetizers. The first film from writer-director Rob McKittrick has a low-budget charm that is well suited to the realistic desperation below its crowd-pleasing gross-out humor. Long is a likeable straight man to Reynolds’ wisecracking ringleader, while Chi McBride and indie veteran Ubach (CLOCKWATCHERS) add texture in their supporting roles. A cousin in crudity to Kevin Smith’s subdivision-themed comedies, WAITING will score a bull’s-eye with service industry pros or anyone who prefers their comedy to originate from below the belt.

Waiting DVD - Ryan Reynolds brings Humor to TGIF
Review created: 03/10/06(updated 03/13/06)
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Waiting is enjoyable for two major reasons:

1) Ryan Reynolds. I have no idea why... and I haven't since Van Wilder... but I find Ryan Reynolds hilarious. There is something about his sarcasm and dry wit. Maybe its his dry delivery - but I think Ryan Reynolds is great in this kind of comedy and really nails the role of a backward, non-aspiring waiter.

2) The concept. Waiting is "Office Space" meets TGIF / Chilis. If you've ever worked as a waiter or in services... you'll get it. If you've ever had a buddy who works in services... you'll appreciate it.

Producer: Adam Rosenfelt, Stavros Merjos
Cast: Anna Faris, David Koechner, Emmanuelle Chriqui, John Francis Daley, Justin Long, Luis Guzman, Ryan Reynolds

Watching the movie Waiting will make anyone laugh, howl and wince. With hillarious scenes that you don't have to be an ex-waiter/waitress to understand.
This movie keeps you locked in till the bitter end and makes the average person think twice about not tipping and being rude.

A definate must see in my books.

I bought the DVD Waiting because I loved the wicked, but very off color humor of it's contents. It was very witty and made me laugh....numerous of times. It's one that I will watch over and over. Ryan Reynolds is outstanding! Anybody who has ever worked in the food service industry can relate to one or all of these off the top characters. I highly recomend this for a good time.

  Painfully Funny
Review created: 04/24/08

The people at Shenanigan's restaurant are an old mix of characters, never making their jobs boring by the amount of shenanigans of their own. Mitch is just starting and is taking the tour with Monty. Monty is the friendly yet crazy work mate, making every moment at fun one. Dean has hit a rut and questions why he still works at Shenanigan's, and cant commit with a fellow employee Amy. Dean was also asked if he wanted the assistant manager spot; to much of the content of others. Serena and Monty were dating, but they have a friendship on fake smiles and sarcasms.

The odd mix of characters of waiting make this such a wonderful. It's just not focused upon the three main characters; Monty, Dean and Serena, the background characters have their own personalities and dilemmas, adding so much more story. The development of the characters aren't fully developed, but you can still understand and sympathies to their problems. The characters are clichéd; you have seen a lot of them before; but they are so well placed and interact perfectly; there is a realism to them.

The major point of Waiting is the black humor that runs through it. It doesn't work off big set pieces and outlandish situations to make you laugh, the humor organically comes out of the characters from their dialog. A lot of the dialog is perverse, but it never seems out of place. Waiting does perfectly reflect the relationship between customer and waiter; well i did. Rob McKittrick unashamedly shows this interaction; the smart-ass customer who always complains, the regulars, and what could go behind the walls when the customers push to hard.

Ryan Reynolds brings another eccentric performance forward. He had been stuck with that eccentric ego in a lot of movies; but he does it perfectly and does another great job again. Anna Faris had finally lost that ditsy persona and shows a broader range of acting; bringing a great performance. Justin Long does have a puppy dog face a lot of the time, but really comes forward in the more serious moments. All the other actors as the employees all do wonderful performances, making the background character more interesting.

Waiting is a great black comedy on hospitality that is so painfully funny.

Extreeeeeeeeeemly funny when you're just looking for a good, dry humored, sometimes raunchy, sophomoric and quick witted laugh.. I'm pretty hard to please in the humor department so this one's a keeper!

This was a funny movie, but only if you like krewd humor. Not at all for the little kids, so watch it after they go to bed! I would suggest watching it...it might make you think twice about being a rude customer or bad tipper! :)

One raucaus laugh after another. Supposedly based on the real life restaurant experience of the writer/director, this movie portrays what goes on behind the scene of a restaurant and the hilarious lengths a restaurant crew will go to rescue themselves from the boredom and frustration of their daily routines.

  Waiting....A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
Review created: 04/26/06

I am sad to say that this was the worst movie I have seen in a long time. The story line was terrible and the acting wasn't much better! I could have handled the vulgarity if they had mixed in a little more wit or humor. I guess since I liked Van Wilder, I had higher expectations and all I got was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

This movie was right on the ball, with a little creativity and exaggeration thrown in to make it flow. Some of the funniest parts are the most realistic, hence the laugh-ability. Otherwise, a great look at what these poor people have to endure on a daily basis. Some very funny scenes wether you've been there or not!

I thought this movie was hilarious, and anyone i showed it to who has worked in a resturaunt thought so too. Some may not like it but if you liked Van Wilder and Office space, pretty much put those together and have a open mind about frontal male nudity and you're all set.

This was a great movie. I haven't laughed this much in a long time. I saw it the first time when it first came out. And then saw it 2 more times just to drag all my friends to see it.

The movie is about working at a restruant and all the twists that come with that. Like games that make the slow times faster and things that happen when rude customers that come in. And with personel experience in working at a restruant i can tell you that some things in it are true. I will leave you with this.

-Don't mess with people that handle your food.

Ryan Reynolds, like Ben Stiller, has his own comedic way and this movie is exactly what I would expect from Ryan Reynolds. If you liked Van Wilder, then this will be up your alley. Personally, I liked it; but probably would have liked it a lot more if I were a 16 year old boy.
