i've been looking for a game to get my wife into gaming, and apparently viva pinata is it! its been a huge hit at home. the game itself is great; very colorful graphics, addictive gameplay, and fun to play. its great for gamers of any experience, from less experienced (my wife) to those of us who have been playing for the last couple decades (*ahem* myself =p). highly recommended!

Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise (xbox 360)

Pro: The first Viva Pinata was a great game for those who needs a little getaway garden of their own. It is filled with the cutest creatures, creative play, and mental exercises in playing this game I found useful to keep my mind sharp. I looked forward to the new version which was expected and has added new creatures and gameplay, more ease of doing routine tasks in raising money and completing achievements. This new game does have the same 'good qualities' as the old with added new adventures and challenges. The initial game play has the reminisant bells and chimes of an arcade game, but very soon this 'aid' to center your cursor on characters and items, goes away, and the old viva pinata soon appears. The new game does lessen the chores of planting, watering and fertilizing by quickly accessing these choices with the 'x' button selection, rather than going to the 'Costalot's' store. The old characters are the same as before and added are many new interesting and cute pinatas.

Con: This new Viva Pinata has sore need of a bug-fixing patch. The builder 'Willy' does not appear on the menu. He is missing!! Which means none of the pinatas can be romanced, therefore you cannot proceed on with the game. Here you are with all these pinatas in your garden, now fighting with others and each other because they are not romanced. You cannot attract new pinatas in your garden and advance because the 'lower level' pinatas are still present. It is a major glitch.
Another possible glitch, is that when I went of Xbox Live and tried to play the game there thinking the builder will appear there, no builder on the menu and although this version is faster and more fluid, I could not save my game at the end of playing time last night because there was no save button, or automatic save! I have yet to again go on Live with the game today, but I was warned nothing was saved, so I am expecting my garden, in spite of no 'Willy', is no more.
In conclusion, I am hoping Rare puts out a patch or two, to fix the game. To those who want to buy this game, I would recommend waiting until a second batch of 'complete and fixed' Viva Pinatas appear on the shelves.

  Viva Pinata TIP

Its a great game. If you played the first one you will love the second. It seems they improved on some of the game itself with including far more pinatas to add into your garden. Rareware is also a great company and does some wonderful games as well. I have been a huge fan of Rare since they started their work with Nintendo with the SNES publishing aka Donkey Kong Country. I also bought the game as well because it is a family friendly game that my kid can enjoy and not be subjected to some of those "kids" games that require more thought than just fun.

Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise = GREAT FUN!
Review created: 05/18/09

I had purchased this game from an awesome seller here on Ebay for my daughter's 8th birthday. I have this game myself and I love it! There are more types of pinatas to acquire and you can go to the Pinarctic and the Dessert Desert. Of course, you have your Sours to tame, but the gardens are bigger and there is cool new stuff for your garden. Of course, there is Professor Pester, too! This game is perfect for every gardener at every age. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes to be creative. And, the best part is that you can have multiple gardens and you can move your stuff from garden to garden without having to start all over. It's a lot of fun!

It's a bit different from the first one, but it's really has it own twist and gives you new things to do which is a good break from the first game. I still love how you have to gain the pinatas. Really fun game to play!

Kids love it, cannot stop playing. I wish there was a way to skip the little movies that introduce the piñatas and stuff.

Quick Review for "Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise"
Review created: 12/31/08

This game is kind of a sequel to the first game titled "Viva Pinata" which came out back in 2006. There are a lot of improvements from the first game and new features such as online co-op and the new strategy to capture pinata just like in the Sunday Morning cartoon. I was very impressed with this game and would recommend it if you ever played the first game. It is the same formula with new features and it is just as fun. Not to mention, the fact there are now 100 pinatas to complete makes this game better.

I bought the first Viva and the new Viva and the kids love both of them . They have spent hours playing them. It is more for little ones to play but the older ones play it too. I think it was well worth it.

SO far I've only played about 5 hours, but from what I've played they have kept the same elements from the first which I fell in love with. They have incorporated new features and a new storyline into the game which is a plus. Get this game if you liked the first!

  Good clean addictive fun!
Review created: 10/04/08

Viva Pinata is one of those games with very basics controls and ideas and exploits them into one of the most addicting games I've ever played. Trouble in Paradise is very similar to the original game with added characters and enviornments. The concept is that you are a gardener that plants certain trees, flowers, veggies, etc. which attract different types of pinatas. Your goal is to build a prosperous garden and attract bigger and better pinatas throughout the game. Sounds kinda corny, but once you get a feel for the game and see your garden flourish it is quite rewarding and fun. Good clean entertainment for all ages!

Great for players of all ages.

GAMEPLAY
You're a gardener given a square plot of ground to shape however you see fit, and your efforts are rewarded by the arrival of colorful piñata animals. Get to know your piñatas' likes and dislikes and you'll soon have a garden full of them to do with as you please.

Each piñata has requirements for visiting and taking up residence in your little plot (ex: Bunnycombs like carrots). As you plant things, decorate your garden and raise piñatas, you'll level up and increase both the size of your garden and the amount of tools and toys at your disposal.
Make your piñatas happy and you can get them to "romance," which magically produces a baby piñata if everything goes to plan.

As with much of the Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise experience, snaring innocent piñatas and spiriting them away to your personal menagerie feels a bit wrong, but it's addictive and oddly satisfying too. That's because the piñatas in Trouble in Paradise are so damned cute that you just can't help but covet them. Seeing a particularly picky piñata wandering at the edges of your garden, refusing to enter unless you meet its stringent requirements, can be a great motivator to finally get that row of gooseberry bushes planted.

WHATS NEW?
Things work just the same as in the original Viva Piñata. The engine is the same, the helper-characters are the same, and all the original piñatas are back. But with 32 new species to attract and two new areas to explore, there's more to like in Trouble in Paradise.

CONCLUSION
Viva Piñata Trouble in Paradise is a satisfying experience and should appeal to gardeners of all ages. Although anything presented is remarkably new, it has added nearly everything many gamers found missing from the previous game, thus creating the definitive Viva Piñata experience. If you’ve never played the original, this is definitely the version to buy.

This review made possible thanks to Ryan Geddes.
