Album Notes
VINTAGE COUNTRY, from the people at Starbuck's coffeehouses, opens on a wandering note, with the wistful prairie strains of Eddy Arnold's "Cattle Call" followed by Patsy Cline's woeful classic nonpareil "Walkin' After Midnight." By the middle of the set, the listener is treated to the unbridled ferocity of Johnny Cash's punk-precursor "Ring of Fire," backed with Merle Haggard's boozy and unrepentant "Mama Tried." The change in tone is bridged by the likes of Hank Williams and Ernest Tubb. The compilation comes full circle, winding up on the melancholy trail of Willie Nelson's 1970's hit "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." It's a natural, almost mystic progression, mirroring the best parts of the country & western world.
