I purchased this book based upon Oprah Winfrey's recommendation, specifically, her book club.

I was very disappointed. I expected a book that was horrifying and gripping, but I found it to be dull and boring. There was no excitement whatsoever. I read the entire book, hoping that it just started out slow, and would get more interesting as I delved deeper into the book. That just wasn't the case. If you are looking for a book written in monotone verbiage, then this may be for you. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It is simply boring and unexciting. Sorry, Oprah.

A gripping tale of a woman's struggle to save her marriage against seemingly insurmountable odds. The struggle turns to one of self-discovery as we learn to know the exceptionally finely developed characters.

Their flaws are all recognizable in those we know (hopefully from afar), and their strenths make us like them in spite of their flaws.

This is a dark book of a woman's journey to self-empowerment. It's not pretty, but it's all too real.

Loved this book. Read it in two days. Great price. I buy all my books on ebay. They are always (almost) in good condition. Way cheaper than buying brand new (and sometimes on ebay they are brand new). Great story about a family in the 50's living w/the not so nice in-laws (husbands parents).

I BUY OPRAHS BOOK CLUB SELECTIONS WHEN I RUN ACROSS THEM. USUALLY A PRETTY GOOD BET.

I ENJOYED THIS BOOK AND READ IT IN A COUPLE OF SETTINGS.

IT MADE ME REALIZE MANY TIMES THERE IS A LOT MORE TO SOMEONE THAN WHAT MEETS THE EYE. THIS FAMILY MADE SOME VERY POOR CHOICES ALONG THE WAY.... THANK GOODNESS THE MOTHER FINALLY MAKES SOME CHANGES IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION FOR HER CHILDREN.
