The View From Saturday - Great book for Tweens
This book is on the 6th Grade reading level. It is engaging. It will require your young reader to pay attention to detail as there are number of subplots that are all woven together by the end. There are different speakers for each chapter. I found that it was helpful to point that out to our young reader as it is quite confusing if they miss that concept. The plot encompasses a number of different topics including an Academic Bee Competition, saving sea turtles, literary references to Alice In Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass as well as extended family relationships-parents, grandparents, step-grandparents.. This book is not boring and should keep your tween's attention - with a little coaching from the parent or teacher if your reader is easily distracted!
