Movie Description
One of the earliest documentaries produced exclusively for television, the 26 episode VICTORY AT SEA won both an Emmy and a Peabody Award for its accomplishments. Featuring narration by Broadway actor Leonard Graves and a musical score by the legendary Richard Rodgers, VICTORY AT SEA took hours and hours of footage shot by the navy during the Second World War and trimmed it down to create a narrative of the war from the perspective of the major sea battles and maneuvers. Airing in the 1952-53 television season, VICTORY AT SEA went a step further than the newsreel format of the day while anticipating the coming era when footage from all over the world would be seen by television audiences as soon as events happened.

    "The World at War" seems to get the most attention when it comes to war documentaries but you are missing a classic wit "Victory at Sea"....the awesome score from Richard Rodgers. Some film clips I have never seen before. The intros by Peter Graves are cool. It may be a bit pricey in the stores..but you should find it cheaper on ebay. Highly recommended!!!

    This true-life documentary shows the reality of war like none other. Shows actual war-time footage with expert profesional naration and a great sound track to go along with this as well. This documentary was slightly ahead of it's time, envisioning a time when television would show live events as they actually happened. Highly recomend this one, as it is hands down one of the best investments in entertainment you will ever make. Great for veterans and non-veterans alike, as well as anyone who knows the price of freedom is never free. 5 STARS*****
