An excellent reference book on various operas. It gives a synopsis of the stories of the operas, background info on the composers, and a discography listing of various musical selections (overtures and arias) from the operas, all from the RCA Victor recording library of course. This is the age of opera from the 50's and 60's so record listings are of Robert Merrill, Richard Tucker, Anna Moffo, Rise Stevens, etc. No references of Pavorotti, Domingo, Marilyn Horne, Sherrill Milnes, Tom Krause, stars of the 70's and 80's are listed. But still a great collection of opera stories and background info.
