Van Halen - Live Without a Net (DVD, 2004)

As someone who was lucky enough to have grown up during the hard rock/metal golden years, I was a Van Halen fan. After taking up the guitar at 15 (1981) I came to realize just how amazing Eddie Van Halen is as a musician and Van Halen quickly became my favorite band. Edwards style is so unorthodox that I (like many other guitar players) had a hard time figuring out just how he did all the amazing things on the guitar. For many years it was a mystery....until this show came out on VHS and now DVD. If you are a guitar player and EVH fan, this DVD will quickly become your Bible. You can see how Edward creates many of the sounds he is famous for (many are very simple, but impossible to figure out until you see them.) Things like the Mean Street intro, lots of tapping licks, cool tap harmonics and finger positions are clearly shown. For the guitar secrets alone the DVD is easily worth the price. The show itself is a great look at how entertaining and talented Sammy is (the best voice in rock) and has the classic Van Halen moments we have all come to expect (Michael's Jack Daniels bass solo, Alex wailing throughout, Eddie mastery of all aspects of the guitar, Sammy's funny talks in between and during songs, etc.) If you are a Van Halen fan, this DVD is a MUST HAVE. By far, the best live show they have put out comercially (much better then the Right Here Right Now show.) Van Halen fans...BUY THIS DVD...you will not be disappointed. Van Hagar in all their glory at the pinnacle of their careers.

I well done concert footage of Van Halen at their finest hour. It just doesn't get any better than this!

I waited a long time for this concert to be released on DVD. I wore out the VHS copy years ago, studying it over and over to learn how to play like Eddie! The encore of "Rock and Roll" lead to my discovery of Led Zeppelin, and the entire concert is great. This is a must for any Van Halen fan - especially those who love the Hagar era. ENJOY!!!!

the individual solos of Eddie, Alex and Michael were FAB ! Great footage of all -- great songs -- it definitely ROCKED -- it was their first live video in concert when Sammy came on board -- and he definitely ROCKED too.... Eddie shows his #1 status !! GREAT DVD

I did not own a Van Halen video when I was in the 80's and this video just takes me back to old memories

Not only the guitar solo is great but there are songs that I never listened to that makes me want to buy the cd

I highly recomemded,sometimes you need a break from this generation of lip synchin and not enough instrumental talent

It is nice to be able to find some music from a time when they used to know how to make music. Plus it was filmed in the good old New Haven Coliseum. (Now a parking lot.) A+++

Being a Sammy Hagar fan since way before there was even a thought of a VanHalen I was originall disappointed that Sammy joined VanHalen at the height of his career. But after getting the first joint album and seeing the first tour, I knew it was a good move for both. I originally had this concert on VHS so the purchase of a DVD was just a natural transition.

Great concert, great performance with a lot of energy. If you're into VanHalen and especially Sammy, this is a must have. Nothing against DLR but he is no Sammy.

All Van Halen rocks. There is no bad Van Halen, this DVD even though is Sammy is great. Eddie is one of a kind on a guitar. I recommend any of Van Halen's music cd's or dvd's they are a one of a kind band and I hope they continue to tour.

If you are a Van Halen fan you won't put it away. The energy and raw power of these 4 guys on stage just makes you want to play it again. Sammy dangling from the cat walk in the arena is exciting. Eddie, Alex & Michael are every bit as much fun to watch.

I love the dvd I bought, van halen in their prime. I would recommend any fan to search e-bay for this item at a great price.

If your any kind of Van Hagar fan you must have this DVD. Fantastic sound and visuals.Eddie is amazing on the guitar as always. If you have never seen Van Halen in concert and are atrue fan of rock then this dvd is a must.

Excellent DVD the sound is great! Great shots of Eddie, closeups of him jamming, They really LOOK like they are having a great time! Recommended..

This is a great video. Eddie's playing is accurate and full of energy. They play all of the good songs from the 5150 CD and some extras. There is also an eruption type solo with a lot of extras including what is now known as 316, a Michael Anthony bass solo, and Alex Van Halen drum solo in addition to the songs.

Its not a long video but its definately worth getting if you are into the Van Haggar era.
