Vampyr
Intensely creepy. Like many early/silents, we get a fantastic grasp on the weather: it's funny how I always get that sweaty. Late afternoon feeling when watching pre-60s films… hmm… And while the film itself was not as mind-blowingly amazing as The Passsion of Joan of Arc, few films are and this can more than stand on it’s own. It’s famous use of shadows is every bit as good as it is lived up to be, and quite mesmerizing to watch. I always like when I ask “How did they do that??” while watching an older film. The answer, of course, is imagination, and the imagination pulsing in every inch of this film, from set to script, is what kept my interest, despite the storyline being far from my cup of tea.
