A Vampire's Claim by Joey W. Hill (2009, Paperback)

I love Joey Hills books. She never misses a single detail. This book was a joy to read. A little scary in some parts, buts that is what helped keep it exciting.

Devlin is a man who has see and experience about the worst any human can. After the war with Japan in Australia and his wife and son being brutally murdered. His heart has become wounded and broken. He spends day after day clearing his mind or the horrors he has lived through.
Then he meets Daniella-a vampire. She wakes his heart without him really realizing it. She makes him feel things and see things differently with every touch, taste, feel, and thought. Forcing him to face those things that scare him the most. She also finds herself enthralled with his strength and masculinity. She admires his fearlessness. Together they form a love and a bond stronger than the average servant and vampiress.
