Valmont (DVD, 2002, Widescreen)

I really preferred the crueller, wickeder, more dramatic "Dangerous Liaisons" with John Malkovich, but that didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying Milos Forman's "Valmont."

Colin Firth is as handsome as always, playing the mischievous, playful Valmont. Annette Bening is lovely, but her plotting and manipulations weren't quite as fun to watch as Glenn Close's.

Fairuza Balk is adorable and it made me uncomfortable, since she looked so much younger than Uma Thurman's Cecile, watching Valmont seduce her. It seemed way more like nonconsensual relations to me.

Meg Tilly was luminous as Madame de Tourvel. Her sister can't hold a candle to her.

Good old Henry Thomas of "E.T." fame is adorable as the clumsy music tutor Danceny. It's enjoyable to watch the budding romance between him and Fairuza's Cecile.

This more lighthearted version is fun to watch. The sets and costumes are fabulous but a bit restrained. You get to see Colin Firth in a period style bathtub, ooh.

This is definitely a chick flick so don't try to inflict it on your husbands or boyfriends!

Wonderful film adaptation of tragedy based on deceit and lust for power. This film was beautifully lensed and the cinematography is breath-taking. More palatable than the Stephen Frears version.

Colin Firth is WAY sexier than John Malkovich. And Annette Bening sizzles. I love this movie. I love the costuming. I love the dialogue. But I really really love Colin Firth.

I purchased the DVD Valmont and was very satisfied. The purchase easy.

I love Colin Firth so decided to purchase this movie to see him at his dirtiest. And he is! Firth portrays a man without a conscious- a great detour from the good guy persona we've grown to love him for. It was a great movie! Be prepared to laugh and gasp and shake your head at the dysfunction and comic absurdity.

Extremely well-acted period piece, starring a young 29 year old Colin Firth, & co-starring Meg Tilly, & Annette Bening.
I bought this DVD because my husband & I are fans of Colin Firth, & we greatly admire his amazing acting skills, horsemanship, & skills at fencing. We plan to collect as many DVDs of his films as are available, in this format (DVD).
We knew from the start, that the story would not end on a happy note for Valmont. He was a bounder & a cad, & so, although it saddened us both, it came as no surprise, when he was killed in a duel, near the end of the movie. We found ourselves in mourning, along with his elderly aunt.

ONE OF THE SEXIEST MOVIES EVER!!!! COLIN fIRTH IS AMAZING!!! BEAUTIFUL PERIOD PIECE!! MUSIC IS GREAT!

Unfortunately for the excellent cast, cinematographer, director, this movie came out a bit after the release of Dangerous Liaisons and DL overshadowed it. But, this film was more finely crafted and more subtle generally. I've seen both, own copies of both, but prefer Valmont. Costumes are wonderful, Milos Forman's focus on visuals makes this a pleasure to watch. And, Annette Benning is far superior to Glenn Close in the same role. Nope, this is the better film, without question.

I loved "ValMont" because the characters were mischievious! All the convoluted schemes, backstabbing and betrayal was the best recipe for fun viewing. Loved it! Especially loved Colin Firth with his irresistible,flirtacious smile--Eye Candy!
