Valkyrie (Blu-ray Disc, 2009)

Based on an assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler which actually happened on July 20th, 1994, this film engulfs the viewer with action, wonderful scenery, and a believable storyline and character-base to boot.

Before long, we discover that that Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) becomes the number one man to be responsible for taking Hitler out of power by plotting an assassination with many other Germans (Officers, Lower ranking Soldiers, and other Politicals) wishing to regain power from the hands of the Feurher.

The tippie-toeing that went on in this film really makes you feel the nervous tension as lies and deceit become second nature. After a botched plan perpetrated earlier, Von Stauffenburg is called into the plans and given a very close position in Hitler's Army.

Project VALKYRIE becomes the main way for the Emergency Army to maintain and keep control if something were to happen to Hitler, thus the SS would be taken out of the formula, thus staging a very slick Coo.

The bombing attempt on Hitler failed, thus foiling the plotters plans of quickly taking power by any means necessary, but soon lose power as their plans backfire on them. Cruise plays a convincing Von Stauffenberg. Additional cast members are Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, and Terence Stamp.

This incredible story unravels with excellent harmony and wonderful cinematography. This is based on historic fact and moves very quickly. We seldom feel that anyone really wanted to punish those who took part in the coo, however, that's what happens in Love and War. Nearly 5,000 Germans were soon arrested and executed after this occurrence.

I'll give this a 5/5 for excellent portrayal of true story.

ACCESS to KILL Hitler 2. A PLAN to gain control after it is done~so they can ARREST Hitlers Followers and take over the government and make peace with the Alies~ so July 20th 1944 the plan is set in motion~ Carring a BOMB in his brief case (Cruise) Von Stauffenberg travels to EAST PRUSSIA to Hitler's Ultra Secret WOLF'S LAIR his secret BASE and sets the BOMB OFF~ now flees back to Berlin in his plane AND THE PLOT moves forward using a VERY alterted VALKYRIE PLAN and using the HOME GUARD begin to take control~ using all means possible the plot moves along very well UNTIL WE FIND HITLER IS "NOT DEAD" and FAST as the plotters gained POWER they loose it~ leading to the ARREST of Van Stauffenberg and his supporters~ a STELLER CAST with Tom Cruise who is very good as Von Stauffenberg, with Kenneth Branagh, Tom Wilkinson, Bill Naghy and Terrance Stamp. OUTSTANDING cinematography. IN ALL OVER 5,000 PLOTTERS WERE arrested and most excuted in Hitler's revenge for the plot~ but we see the courage of the group who tried to change one of the darkest days for Germany in history~ many scenes were actually shot in the place they first happened. Very good movie. If you know some historic fact before you watch it it ADDS to the FAST moving PLOT which is mostly based on historic events.
I GIVE IT A SOLID 9 OUT OF 10 FOR STELLER CAST, GREAT COSTUMES, TRUE LIFE PLOT AND OUTSTANDING CINEMATOGRAPHY.

The movie tells the true story of how high ranking Officers used Valkyrie to attempt to change the German government after the assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler July 20, 1944.

The movie is fast paced and full of action, the story is mostly accurate with some liberties taken to enhance the drama but overall it sticks to the facts.

I recommend this to anyone who needs a refresher course on the history of WWII.

Rated 5 of 5 for an excellent story and fine acting.

Definitely a turnaround for Cruise, but the story itself isn't as smooth as one would hope for an epic story such as project valkyrie. Supporting roles are delightful, some even beyond convincing. Overall a joy to watch besides it's few lacking areas.

Its an excellent movie if you are into a true story with war drama.
I have "The night of the generals" with Peter O'toole and Omar Sharif in it. Valkyrie is a small part in that movie. For drama I like "The night of the generals" better.
Sound effects are so real. Tom cruise role is OK.

Great cast! This is one movie that holds you from start to finish with a great storyline (which is a true story BTW) and awesome acting. It was great in the theater and even better on blu ray and I don't even like Tom Cruise. A must add to any edge of your seat collection.

Valkyrie is one of the finest films I have seen in a long time. Acting all around is superb; many people seem to think that this is a movie all about the oft-disdained Tom Cruise but that is not true at all. It is an all-star cast that delivers scene after scene. Bluray picture and sound are excellent. I would recommend this film to anyone willing to see a compellingly different side of Nazi Germany.

I am history buff. I saw the movie at theater and wnat to see it again with high quality setup at home. Even though I knew the story, suspense is still there.

Very interesting. A few twists and turns. T. Cruise is not his usual wimpy self. He plays a REAL man in this WW II mystery thiller shot during the war. He among others plot to kill Hitler. Were they sucessful?? A excellent BD transfer. A good Buy.

Claus von Stauffenberg was an honourable and very fine German and Tom Cruise pays him decent homage in this movie adaptation. There is much to be gained and understood, by both Germans and non-Germans, from seeing the Germany that von Stauffenberg knew and loved! Germany needs its heroes as well!!
