Valiant (DVD, 2005)

The reviews on Valiant are horrible. This I find to be a big mistake, I personally loved the film, it's largest mistake is a lack of a good target audience, it is kinda a silly kids animated film with fart jokes and such, but than it has in my opinion three times as many jokes for adults about World War 2, It has some hilarious cracks on Hitler and D-Day which is usually something that I find impossible to laugh about. The short(76 minute) running time just helps the film because there are only so many jokes it can make without offending someone and it never tries to use one more than once. The plot is filled with holes but is perfect for making all the jokes. The screenplay has some good dialogue and makes all the great jokes. The voice talents are great. The film is well directed but could have been better. The film is perfectly animated.

The problem with "Valiant" is that it doesn't really break any new ground. It's saddled with a strictly by the book "Little guy proves he's got the stuff" storyline. This could've been overcome if the script was a little more lively, the animation a little more creative, the action a touch more compelling. But these areas don't pick up the slack.

There's nothing really wrong with the film, but there's not a whole lot right with it either. While I liked the characters, they never transcended their simple intent (snooty bird, slob bird, battling brothers, evil falcon leader, etc.). And never once did I have the slightest moment of suspense over the outcome. Of course, I knew our hero wasn't going to be killed. That's a given. But usually the unpredictability of the story keeps me involved. Not in this one.

Okay, so I'm not a kid. Our kids liked it. But in this new age of animation, the bar has been raised exceedingly high, and Valiant falls wells short. On the plus side, I thought much of the quieter animation and character design was excellent. Purchasing this to add your dvd collection, you may want to pass this up, and get TOY STORY 2, or either INCREDIBLES (PIXAR), which our kids would repeatly to watch, so you have more time free, if you know what we mean :)

I bought the dvd and I liked the movie. I liked it because it had some history to it. Even though it is a fictional story, I liked that it dealt with real events in WWII. Valiant is a total underdog (much like Chicken Little) who is small in size & stature but is destined to do great things. He is a British homing pigeon who wants to be a hero. It's a good movie that everyone in the family would enjoy.

This is a great kids movie. It is funny and educational. No matter your size you can do almost anything. A must see for kids and young at heart adults.

I think this is a great animated film for whole family, especialy those 11 and younger. Story about a brave little pigeon. I have a copy, this is for the grandkids.

My daughter is 7 and she loves this movie. We received the movie on Tuesday, and she has already watched it three times!

Cute movie with plenty of humour. Historically incorrect portraying war heroes as someonthing they were not, lack respect for our veteran animals that helped serve our country, I see now why it did not perform better in the ratings.

Common pigeons were never used for message carrying. They used only Homing pigeons from top breeders.

I had looked everywhere for this movie for my grandaughter for Christmas. This is one of her favorite movies. She was so happy when she opened it. She wanted to watch it when she went to bed Christmas night. It was shipped the same day I ordered it and is in excellant condition. Thank you very much.

My children really enjoyed this movie. It's a cute movie with lessons to learn from it. One of those is "it's okay to be different". Once you see the movie you should realize that it takes all kinds to make the world.

Although shipping was fast, that was the only good thing about this purchase. Upon opening the case iI noticed the Movie was scratched beyond repair, therefore I now am out the money I paid for this movie. It was not much $ but the title and description painted another picture. Oh well!

Good, my 6 year old was not to into it and she loves to watch new movies. Maybe would be better for older kids!!!

I think it's good for a one time watch, but my kids watch it alot. If you like birds it's for you. You should rent before you buy this one to make sure you like it.

I like it because it was good family dvd. I got for my son who enjoys all disney movies and also on ebay was the only place I could find the movie, being i'ts been made in 2005.

We have racing pigeons, and I thought the movie would be cute. I like to read about the history of the racing pigeons in any form. The movie was cute and easy to follow. It also opened the door for more study on the subject.

A co-worker couldn't find this video in stores. We found it and bought it on eBay. Her kids love it.

It looks at WWII from a pigeon's point of view. They played a big part in bringing home the messages from the war front. It's good british humor at its best.

My three year old loves this movie about world war carrier pigeons.a great cast do the voices and after seeing it enough times to know every word in the movie,i still enjoy watching this one with her. it's also cool that it's about something that actually happened. i would definately recommend it to anyone with little people in the house.

This movie was horrible. My husband and I are like big kids, we LOVE animated movies. We have gone to see cars, nemo, ect. We were excited about going and seeing this movie and afterwards we wish we hadn't! It was slow boring and I can only imagine a kid watching it. I wanted our money back. We couldn't get it back of course but non the less. I wouldn't recommend spending a dime to buy or rent it. Now if someone gave it to you or let you borrow it, it isn't that bad, go ahead and watch it, but if I am going to spend money on something it wouldn't be this!
