Valentine One V1 Radar Detector- The BEST
Review created: 10/11/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Valentine One has a patented warning system relying on both forward- and rearward-facing radar antennas (front and rear laser sensors too). It goes beyond Ordinary Radar Detectors by telling you -- on every alert -- where to look, and how many to look for. Once you have this intelligence report, you can easily decide when to defend, and when you can simply shrug off a non-threatening alarm.

Valentine One V1 Radar Detector worth every $!
Review created: 01/04/10

Purchased a V1 with POP protection (version 1.8) as my first radar detector after doing a lot of comparison shopping. I am very pleased with the radar to date.

Pros: Excellent long-range detection capability, easy to install and use, directional arrows/bogeys counter/signal strength indicator make it easy to interpret threats. Great use on the open highway and freeways (which is where I go “faster” anyways…)

Cons: When used at night it is VERY difficult to determine which band is being detected (Laser, Ka, K, X) – this is because all of the LED are the same dumb color (red) and space close together. I always pay 100% attention to a Ka-band where as I might shrug off an X-band in the city. This radar does not have a GPS locator map to rule out area-specific false reads (i.e. convenient store automatic door that you always drive by), so this device is limited in effectiveness in the city. I’ve also received some false POP laser warning I was never able to identify??? But that is an infrequent thing and happened in a specific area.

Summary: I’ve mounted my detector high near the mirror to maximize view of surroundings and it works quite well with the hard wire adapter kit. The key here is this detector should be a COMPLEMENT to speeding defense – not an end all. Clearly this will not identify a cop car that is not actively running radar, so a good pair of scanning eyes (on you the driver!!!) is truly your #1 defense. This device works best in open areas and is a great tool that should be added to a driver’s defense bag of tricks. I would recommend the V1 and would buy it again if given the chance. Hope this review helps.

  Valentine 1 Radar Detector

I was going back and forth between Escort and Valentine radar detectors and opted for the Valentine 1. I know the Escort is excellent but this Valentine 1 is incredible. It took a few test rides to figure out what it was telling me but now that I know...it can't be beat. Excellent Ka range, unbelievable range at times. Laser is adequate, after all, if the laser warning goes off you're caught. The only drawback for me is the K band sensitivity which picks up every garage door opener and security system around. Even so I wouldn't trade the Valentine 1 for anything.

  Valentine One is the best
Review created: 02/20/10

Reading the review it seems people don't understand this detector. It has arrows precisely so you know if it is a radar or a store's entry system. The arrows tell you where to look. Many radars and lidars are instant on but still detectable by this system, police will develop more and more technology to defeat better and better detectors, however if it beats this, it will beat the other company's detectors'. A police officer is also not likely to explain how he got you, maybe it wasn't new technology. He may have paced you, or an overhead plane can be used and radioed a chase car. In Connecticut state police cars (staties) are frequently Mustangs, Mazdas and others, so watch out. You may save money on other company's detectors, but only on the price, not on the tickets or your insurance. In controlled tests by Car and Driver Magazine the Valentine One scored in the mid to hi nineties whereas no other brand scored above seventy. It would be interesting to drive with this and other detectors in the same car to see the results.

There are many things I like about this radar detector; you get an indication on whether the radar is in front, behind or on the sides. More importantly, you receive the warning so far ahead you may start thinking it's a false alarm. I have had it two full months and have already avoided two speeding tickets. Learn to trust it! My advice is buy one if you like driving fast in open roads as I do. Great product and well worth the money!! This is my first Valentine and I would not trade it for the world. Very accurate compared to other detectors I have owned.

  Great detector, highly recommended
Review created: 02/04/10

I've done my fair share of research on radar detectors and this one was always towards the top of the list. Within 3 weeks of buying my v1, it saved me from at least 3 tickets on my 4 hour drive from the bay area, ca down to pismo beach. One example was it found the cop hiding on the backside of a freeway on ramp about 1-1.5 miles ahead. I could not see him until I passed the over pass since he was on the down slope.

I have to say, I don't speed too much too often but its a nice peace of mind to know when theres a cop around so you can slow down instead of slamming on the brakes like some people do when they see one.

The v1 is fairly accurate, although it does report a lot of bogeys. Also, from my research, there really isn't a good laser detector that can help you since most laser detectors will not go off until the cop has the ladar gun pointed at your car (so if you're already speeding, you're pretty much just caught red handed). Overall, I love my V1 and would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for such a device.

  Valentine One Radar Detector V1
Review created: 09/05/09

Valentine detectors always have ranked #1 in performance. You will get hooked very quickly on seeing which direction the radar is being detected from. Additionally, there is a serial number on your detector and if you want to buy a part from Valentine, they check to make sure it is not in a STOLEN registry. Valentine detectors are UPDATABLE. The one I bought on eBay needs to be updated according to Valentine, but it sounds like for a little over $200 they are going to give me a complete new detector, case, manual, cords and the works. Keep in mind they are about $500 new if that price shocks you. I have used every brand of detector there is and like one other one that I have from Rocky Mountain Radar. Rocky Mountain claims to also do jamming, but they NEVER submit their detectors for comparison purposes and I have read white-papers that say the jamming is non-existant and explain why. However, on the road, I like the Rocky Mountain detector better than others that I have including Bel and Escort. I try to upgrade about every year and a half. Now that I have a Valentine I will probably stick with it and just upgrade it.

Red Hot Valentine! She's the One
Review created: 10/03/09

Well, Ladies (and Gentlemen), I have a hot little car (dare I say ... a Scion TC) with gorgeous graphics (eye-catching). My little TeeCee has a mind of her own and a throttle to match. I've been fortunate enough not to be ticketed ~ yet ~ but it's bound to happen with her looks and desire to be "first on the road". It wasn't a difficult decision to make the investment in some protection from the inevitable with a radar detector. After lengthy research I decided to go with the Valentine One V1 and I'm glad I did. I've done "on-board" comparisons with other detectors and Valentine One wins hands down every time. It's unobtrusive, easily understood, heard and quieted when necessary and just the security device needed to insure that I hold my speed to within the legal limit. :-)

It doesn't get any better than the Valentine 1 radar detector. I've owned several "top end" detectors, and none of them compare. As the ads say, once you've lived with the directional arrows & "bogey counter" that tells you how many radar signals it's picking up, you'll never want a dumb beeping radar detector again.

Not only does the V1 chirp less than the others (it has 3 different radar modes for varying levels of filtering), it tells you exactly where the signal is coming from, and how many signals it's receiving. This makes figuring out false alarms infinitely easier, and lets you know whether there's a cop radar'ing you up ahead or from behind. There simply is no other radar detector on the market that compares. This is my second one. My first one was stolen. They're so good, thieves search them out!

Highly recommended.

This radar detector has saved my behind so many times it is crazy! The Valentine works great with one of those short power cord attached to your electronics in your mirror (not included in the box). The different settings work great I leave mine on setting L and it does well with not going off to much in the city. It still goes off like crazy though in parking lots of like big dept stores though.

Overall very happy with this unit and I have 3 of them ;)

  Valentine Gold Standard

Anyone that does any research on radar/laser detectors knows two things, a cheap one is worthless, and the Valentine V1 is always listed in as a top 2 detectors. Some people complain that it is over sensitive, but you can just switch it to Advanced Logic Mode (big L on the screen) and it will be quiet enough. This thing is super sensitive on the highway and can give you a solid 2 miles of warning if the officer has the gun on. Arrows help a ton in the city and it will tell you the direct of the strongest signal as well as the other signals simultaneously.

Valentine is the number one detector
Review created: 05/06/09
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is my third Valentine V1 Radar Detector. I have one in each of my cars. I have tried the other brands and they do not measure up. The Valentine has better range and two other unique features: 1. it tells the number of signals it is receiving so if the number shows to be greater than a "1", it is generally a false alarm - garage door, microwave, fast food restaurant, etc. 2. it has an arrow pointing towards the direction of the radar - so you know if the radar is coming from in front, behind or side. On balance, I have found the Valentine to be superior across the board - plus, my understanding is that the company will update the detector free - I have not tried this but that is my understanding. I highly recommend the Valentine.

Excellent radar detector, invisible to patrol detectors. I can't drive without it anymore. detects radar and laser gun in front or rear. gives a well in advance signal to slow down without precipitation (braking). Sensibility can be turn down for city driving.

  The arrows make it great...

Other than the arrows, it's ok. I've gotten a few tickets with it but i've also missed a lot with it!! One cop told me the reason my Radar didn't pick him up is because they use some new computer technology? So you may want to look into this new technology & a radar that supports it. IDK but I was pretty pissed. If I had to go back I probably would've got a cheaper radar because it seems i'd get the same results. Overall though I am satisfied with the tickets it has saved me from and those arrows are heaven :-)... OH & beware of areas with a Drug Store on each corner. Walgreens, Rite Aid & CVS make this thing go BANANAS! Also, stores with detectors at the door. You can change the mode but then you run the risk of mising a cop...

  Valentine 1 Radar Detector
Review created: 01/05/10

The best unit I ever purchased. I already had a Passport X50 and have owned plenty of other Passports through the years. I wanted to try the Valentine because of the reviews and comparisons between these leaders in radar detectors. Well my vote is for Valentine 1 - this unit is highly sensitive and the directional arrows help greatly. I have convinced my son and wife of the confidence in this unit from only two previously trips and use. Tust me - it is great and you will be happy. The Passport X50 is good, but the Valentine 1 features make it better. I hope this helps from an impartial personal review.

The only good thing about this high dollar detector is that it tells you where the signal is coming from. Produces lots of false alerts from store alarms and automatic doors. Makes you paranoid to speed.

This is by far the best detector that I have owned. Works the best on a back hi-ways. Still works good on the interstates but a few false alarm around city's. This is a very sensitive radar detector! And very good at doing its job!

Guys... I am a police officer myself and I'm telling you... buying any type of radar detector is useless because we can simply turn the radar detector on or off whenever we want to... we can lock you from a mile away if we wanted. These would be great if we left our radar on all the time (which we don't)...

The V1 is a sensitive unit watch for cell phones

I love the display and arrows. It seems to be a great unit with excellent sensitivity. I noticed that my Verizon cell phones may trigger a constant x band alert. I sent it in for service and it is working ok for them. I will work on this when it gets back from service.

All the reviews post the Valentine One as the best hands down. I like my Passport 8500 but this one seems to have the advantage.

I love that it tells you the number of threats.
I like that it has arrows and you can adjust the volume both of the initial treat and the mute.
I dislike that it doesn't work any better than other cheaper ones, the distance and warning all depend on three things:
1. The angle that your windshield is at
2. The glare from sun on the windshield (tint increases this glare)
3. The visibility of the detector (going over a hill or around a corner)
I got pulled over for speeding with my ValentineOne ON and it gave me warning ONLY as the cop was pulling out to get me!!!
They used to say they're pay your ticket, they don't now! Because it doesn't work!
