V for Vendetta by Alan Moore

This graphic novel is what the new movie is based off of and thus the plot is very similar to the movie, however there is much greater depth and significant changes in the movie.
The basic premise brings you into the underground resistance, lead by the character "V," against a totalitarian empire that had taken over England following a devestating catastrophe. In the movie, it was disease and threat of war; in the comic, I was less certain of exactly what had brought about the rise of the iron-handed state. In the end the premise is the same; it is the story of how this figure, "V," effectively turns this totalitarian state upside down and eventually makes it crumble. The artwork is artistic without being too cartoonish, and is meant for a more mature audience, dealing with serious and mature subject matter in a slightly fanciful manner.
If you are into graphic type novels, or enjoyed the movie and want more on how the story originated this is a must buy!
