Comprehensive must-have survival manual

As you may imagine, the U.S. Army knows a thing or two about wilderness survival, and they have put an incredible wealth of information into this handbook. Whether you are a relative novice to wilderness survival, or an experienced survivalist or outdoorsman, this book contains comprehensive information on making fire, finding water, making shelter, acquiring food, psychology, signaling, direction-finding, and information on weapons, tools, and equipment that is easy to understand and utilize. If you only get one book on survival, this would be an excellent choice. For someone that is actually planning on using some of this in real-life situations or wants to be more prepared, I would also recommend a good field guide to edible plants in your expected area- for the western United States I recommend Wild Edible Plants of Western North America by Donald R. Kirk. There is no shortage of good field guides that are primarily east coast based- most are.
In short, if you are looking at getting more information on surviving in all types of situations and environments, get this book- you'll be glad you did, and it may just save your life.
