Album Notes The combination of a light touch and a virtuosic flair distinguished Frank Banta from the other session piano players of the early recording era. He was a supportive accompanist and duettist, as well as a solo recording artist in his own right, and his novelty pop recordings in the 1920s were both commercially successful and technically brilliant. Sadly, few people have ever heard Banta's playing, but this 27-track collection gathers his best work from 1923 to 1930. The sound quality is not stellar, given the age and condition of the source material, but the 78-minute album is a historical revelation and a delight from start to finish, and includes enthusiastic liner notes by musicologist Alex Hassan.
