Uplink was originally self-published by the team that later became Introversion, and despite coming from a small developer and receiving little marketing, its popularity spread through the Internet and word of mouth. It was later picked up by Strategy First (with distribution by Infogrames) -- the Uplink: Hacker Elite edition is technically identical, but the original bubble-jet-printed indie release discs are still memorable collectables.
