The Unreal Story of Pro Wrestling (DVD, 2000)

From the very beginning of wrestling the story begins. Wrestling the oldest competition on earth. Others say running is, but its hard to see people in a race for food. This Dvd is a great addition to any wrestling fans collection. But if your expecting to see great matches from WCW and WWE well this is not the dvd. This is more of a complete history of wrestling. From when the sport was actually considered a sport to the current day sports entertainment. The title should have been the history of wrestling.

This is truly a trip down memory lane. This documentary goes from the 'Early' beginnings of wrestling, from cavemen wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, Competative wrestling, A Sideshow, Pro Wrestling to Sports Entertainment. A real behind the scenes look at how it all began to where it is today. Old School in the sense it still has the World Wrestling Federation, not WWE. More of an in-depth look into the business as opposed to Beyond The Mat. Very entertaining and insightful. Meant for a true fan of sports entertainment.

I first watched this on A&E about 10 years or so ago. I loved it then, and I love it now. It was one of the last works from Steve Allen, who dispite his views on censorship on television, was one of the funniest most entertaining men in the history of that medium. This story goes from the very early days of wrestling through the late 90's boom. A must have for any wrestling history buff.
