Excellent remote. Decided to get an MX900 instead.

Total flexibility is what this remote is all about. The button placement is excellent, feels very well built. Only thing I did not like about this remote was the center select button was hard to get just right (this is a problem with the first versions of the 700 and was fixed in subsequent versions). Considering how old this remote is and that it has yet to become obsolete I am amazed. I would like to see more freely available programming software, however. I had to do a search and look through forums to find a way to get the software...perhaps that is my fault and not that of the manufacturer.

  Best remote ever

I used to program them professionally. Compared to ALL other remotes, the MX 5,6,7,and 800 series are the best remotes I have ever used or programmed. The IR blaster is solid, never "misses" steps in macros. Programming is quite simple, comparatively. All the keys light up, is super easy to hold and use without looking at it, and the keys will NEVER wear off. I wish it had a charger , but even still, the batteries last a long time. I practically gave away a pronto tsu7000 in favor of the mx. tsu is very pretty, but not very functional.. mx is VERY functional and that's what matters to me.

The only remote control you will ever need.

This is my second MX-700 Universal Remote - nothing went wrong with the first one, on the contrary, the first one is so good that I knew I had to get hold of another one.

The MX-700 from Universal Remote Control is a PC programmable universal infra-red remote control that replaces all of your existing remote controls. It has a mix of labeled hard buttons, (all with excellent and suitable names), as well as 10 'soft buttons' that, whilst are still physically the same type of hard button, are placed next to an LCD panel that allows each button to be custom labelled with any 5 character name or function.
The only remaining button for description is the side mounted 'light' button that brings about a lovely green glow allowing you to use the remote in total darkness.

For ease of use and maximum user 'configurability' this device cannot be beaten. Control of up to 20 devices, all buttons can be programmed from pre-configured presets or direct learning from another remote.
Any button can be programmed with a macro of commands and with the 'delay time' feature multiple macros can be programmed on any button, (if I press the 'DVD' button the remote changes to control my DVD player, if I press and hold the 'DVD' button for more than 1 second my entire AV system reconfgures to play a DVD - TV changes input, amp switches input, my digital-optical switch changes input etc ...).

The only downside with this remote is that you MUST use a PC to program it. No programming or learning can happen on the remote itself.
This isn't a problem as long as you get the data connection lead, (or this is easily made from standard 'maplin' parts), and the required software, (getting the software can be a slight problem but do enough google searching and you will turn it up).

The combination of all hard buttons, (great to use when the room is dark as after a short while you 'just know' where the volume up/down buttons are), and the custom labels for the 'soft' buttons is fantastic and much better than any remote control that has a touch screen.

Make no mistake, this remote is a real 'pro' tool that with a little work within the PC programming tool will result in a fantatsic experience for anyone that needs to control an extensive AV / Home Cinema setup.

Seasoned home cinema enthusiasts as well as anyone that just wants to turn on the TV and play a movie will easily make sense of this remote control - my grandfather can use this remote to control my home cinema / AV systems as well as I can.
I even control all of my main and side lighting with this remote after getting some IR lighting fixtures.

A superb product and the onyl remote you will ever need, (unless you buy two or three MX-700s for different rooms / homes ...)

  excellent universal remote

I love these remotes. I prefer the dark gray look of the MX-850, which is essentially the same thing plus RF capability. The biggest downside is the lack of variables in programming available in the higher end URC remotes. MX-700/850s are versatile, utilitarian and pretty durable in my experience. The software includes an exhaustive library of devices and not depending on a "hold your hand" wizard setup (like with Harmony remotes) ensures there will be no surprises of lack of functionality.

The biggest obstacle for an eBay purchaser will be obtaining the software if not included. If you look inside they battery compartment, you should find the product serial number. You can then "register" the remote at unverisalremote.com to access software download.

great product although the seller did not specify what is included, hence it did not include hardwire and software for programing.
