Unitrade – Canada’s Stamp Catalogue
Canada also uses the venerable Scott numbering system as its way of organizing stamps. The numbers are licensed to a firm called the Unitrade Press of Canada. Their product the Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps is a beautiful, spiral-bound book worthy of your consideration. The catalogue is entirely in color and illustrates nearly all its stamps. There are columns for VF, F, and VG centering in mint and VF, F, and VG centering in used until the 1908 issues where it changes to VF and F only. For the modern issues these are reduced further to only VF but then plate blocks are added. Cover prices are included for issues until 1927 when at that point they are replaced by first day cover prices.
Since it is a specialty catalog, there are many minor-numbered entries including plate flaws and color variations. The back of the book has sections include booklets, air post semiofficial issues, perforated official stamps, duck stamps, and all forms of postal stationery. The end has the information about Canada’s former constituent provinces. As expected, cover prices and postal stationery are added.
This catalog is a beautiful and resourceful work as written by D. Robin Harris that definitely is worthy of your consideration of purchase. It has 568 durable pages that lie completely flat. Whether you are a dealer of old Canadian stamps or of modern first-day covers or if you are a collector in a specialty area, this catalog is worthy of being added to your philatelic literature.
