Unforgiven (DVD, 1997)

Retired gunslinger William Munny (Clint Eastwood) reluctantly takes one
last job, and even more reluctantly accepts a boastful youth (Jaimz
Woolvett) as a partner. Together with third partner (Morgan Freeman)
they learn how easily complicated truths are distorted into simplistic
myths about the Old West. Gene Hackman (who won an Oscar for playing
sheriff Little Bill) and Richard Harris stand out as old foes who have
a unhappy reunion. The film also earned Oscars for Best Picture and
Best Director (Eastwood) and is a movie that you will watch over and
over-especially the meeting between Sheriff Little Bill (Hackman) and
Eastwood in the saloon, which is a classic western shootout-only better!!
Will definitely fill an evening with enjoyable entertainment.

I the modern movie's even eminem can win a oscar. So to see a great movie that starts Eastwood, Hackman and Freeman you know it is going to be great these are some of the best living actors it really is a story of a man you try's to find peace but finds no man will ever really escape his past. This is modern day classic and show be used as a tool on how to make movies in this stamp them out times we live in. Not a must buy a must own watch till it is wore out them rinse and repete .

Absolutely outstanding DVD! "Unforgiven" is generally considered Clint Eastwood's definitive work. An excellent story and acting by all. Morgan Freeman has gained a lot of respect over the last few years and this film highlights this. I got the feeling that Gene Hackman stumbled into this movie and had his own vision of his role - he's really capable of better but it seems that he didn't apply himself 100%. This is one of those movies you'll remember for years. You need to review this film before letting non-adults watch it due to subject matter. This version is in the North American DVD Format and was issued in 1997.

I have followed Clint Eastwood since he began. He is what Westerns are all about. Nothing left to say than, "It doesn't get any better than this."

This is the penultimate western. It has action, great acting, excellent dialogue, and rich characters. Eastwood is great as a former gunslinger with no conscience. There is examination of motives and repentance for past violence, until... Well I don't want to ruin it for you if you have not seen it. Two thumbs and two big toes up!!!

Good fast pase western. Great acting. If you like westerns you will like this one. Has good story line. I enjoyed it very much.

Everything about this movie was outstanding. Clint trying to mount his horse,
the half blind cowboy,Hackman as a roofer,the rain, shooting the guy in the
outhouse, it was all great movie making. I bought the cd because all I had it
on was VHS. Probably ranks in the top 3 movies i've watched since 1940.
Morgan Freeman was at his best.

Clint Eastwood again brings his Western genre genius to the screen. An older, tormented hero pays back the wrongdoers on a good vs. evil conflict. Luckily, in American Western cinema, good always wins. Morgan Freeman gives another award-worthy performance as well. Great flick.

It could not have been better timing. I told my whole family that we could see this great movie and the day before I was to leave to go home, and then on deployment to the middle east, it arrived. 13 of us sat down and watched the movie all together!

Hope we can do business again in the future.

This is a real shoot up Western, the last of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti movies. You'll hear plenty of super one-liners; lots of OK Corral shoot outs; plenty of Western tales; and enough foul language to keep you happy for at least a week. A good movie to watch as many times as you want. Great acting, great directing, fantastic photography and filming. You'll enjoy Clint Eastwood's most talked about Western. A definite 5 star (out of 5) movie!

I had never seen a movie before that had people the movie was written about was related to me, William Munny was related to me.. Pretty neat

Everybody knows Clint..He is one of the best film directors. I would love to see more western movies of this kind.

Ebay just asked me to write a review for a purchase that never made it to my door. So I'll do the best I can:

I've always been a big Clint Eastwood fan, and thought this was one of his best movies as both a director/actor. The Academy of Motion Picture Sciences agreed with me, and gave it a best picture and best director award. For a figure who has made his reputation playing characters like "The Man with No Name" and "Dirty Harry," I found this movie to be surprisingly anti-gun, anti-violence. Sure there's a gunfight in the end - what Western doesn't have that - but it was more somber and shocking than "rootin' tootin'" The motivations were more stark and there was a feeling of letting the Genie out of the Bottle by the time Clint finally downed his bottle and went in to take care of business.

That's my take based on memories of the last time seeing this film about 5 or 6 years ago. Maybe it'll make it into my DVD collection someday, but probably not from Ebay/Half.com. (even if I do get another coupon)

i sent a personal check to the seller, who then cashed it and never sent this dvd. i tried contacting the seller as well as ebay. nothing was ever resolved.

I have to say ive seen The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly but this is Eastwood in his prime this movie has a story to tell.

Although this is a dark western film, the one who wrote the "book" on the moody hero, Clint Eastwood, also directed this movie and he gives s superb direction as well as his best performance as an actor. Morgan Freeman is his usual great self as a supporting actor (have you seen him in "The Shawshank Redemption") although his fate is disappointing to me. But the supporting actor that really shined through this film was Gene Hackman! He is really one of the best at playing the "bad" guy and he is most memorable as the villain in this film.

William Munny is a truly great character because the underpinning of the role is the way love can change anyone, even as bad a sort as Munny. But it also shows the way a man can get desperate in life enough to save his children, even going back to the former, evil life. He definitely doesn't like killing, and I think there is a hint that he NEVER liked what he did before he married his wife. However, when revenge becomes the obsession of his life, he shows how easily killing is to him as he kills those responsible for the death of his friend.

One of the best westerns ever made!
