Underworld: Evolution (DVD, 2006, Special Edition, Widescreen Edition)

If you were knocked out by Kate Beckinsale in Len Wiseman's Underworld, you will see the big bucks success of that super first film and the huge budget increase for the sequel Underworld Evolution vies with the Matrix Triology for comfounded, perhaps well intended nonsense.
Too bad. As the vampires would say, "This sucks." Of course, if you own Underworld, you will just have to own it, if for no other reason than you can hate it for not being what it could have been. It is a wonderful illustration that an extra $25 or so million to spend on special effects doesnt necessarily grant creative empowerment equal to the first effort.
