Understanding the Borderline Mother by Christine Ann Lawson Ph.D. (2002, Paperback)

I purchased this book shortly after it was published, and found it to be an excellent book. Ms. Lawson demonstrates a true understanding of a very difficult subject in the field of psychology. I believe that the more extreme cases of human dysfunction are the easy ones. It is the borderline cases that difficult to identify, difficult to categorize, and at the same time are all too common. If you think that there is even a slight possibility that you or someone you know may have a personality disorder, I would urge you to read this book. While written about mothers, my personal experience tells me that much in the book may apply to fathers as well.

The book is easy to read and thus is excellent for both laymen and professionals alike thanks to excellent writing and editing.

The author wrote this as reader friendly. Not like a text book...examples that you can relate to. This is a condition that is new (1980) & gives hope to all those that carry guilt that is associated with children of the borderline mother. It answers questions and helps with dealings with the personalities that show up.

I bought this book to better understand someone and found that it more than answered my expectations. The borderline personality is now much more clear to me and I feel like I know have tools to deal with it when needed.
This book is a must have for anyone needing or wanting to understand the borderline mother and her relationship with her children. It is just as good for adult children wanting to understand their mother as for therapists. The author explains clearly and gives many examples. Mose examples are with daughters though. The son seems to be less present. I am very happy to have read this book, may my soul now be more at peace. I must say that it could be difficult for sensitive souls to read because of the sometimes very cruel ways of some of these mothers.
