Album Notes Personnel: Mike Wiebe (vocals); Fadi El-Assad, Ian McDougall (guitar); Rob Marchant (bass instrument); Eric Green (drums). Audio Mixers: Ai Fujisaki; Mudrock . On UNDERNEATH THE OWL, Texan punk upstarts Riverboat Gamblers raise a racket reminiscent of 1970s Motor City mayhem with a significant '90s pop-punk influence. While opener "Dissdissdisskisskiss" leans closer to the latter, it's ragers like "Catastrophe" that live up to the reckless implications of their titles, thanks in large part to the propulsive hard-rock production of Mudrock, who generally works with the progressive metal of acts like Avenged Sevenfold. OWL is indeed for night-prowlers, and is a welcome dose of effectively polished punk.
Editorial Reviews 4 stars out of 5 -- UNDERNEATH THE OWL is unquestionably the best album of the Gamblers' career thus far. The musicianship is dazzling at times... Alternative Press
[F]or every straightforward burner like 'Catastrophe,' there's a subtle curveball such as the glockenspiel-enhanced 'Robots May Break Your Heart.' Spin
[With] tight, high-velocity bundles of sanded-fuzz guitars and bloodlust-rah-rah choruses....This is a band of tour-van lifers, who hit the finish line here at full speed, with no whining, in 'Victory Lap.' Rolling Stone
