Uncle Shelby's Abz Book by Shel Silverstein (1985, Paperback, Reissue)

This book is hilarious and has moved us to tears in hilarity as we imagine ourselves being kids reading this book! Each of our children as they have moved from our home have asked for their own copies to share with friends. Our own copy is loved and careworn. No matter how we down-size, I can't imagine us getting rid of this one!

If you have a great sense of humor, you will LOVE this book. WARNING! It's too funny to read all at once and you will probably pee yourself when reading it.

A timeless classic, Uncle Shelby writes with complete disregard for the safety of children and the contentment of today's thought police. In the better, vanished time when the book was written, American were not patrolled by the nanny state, PC police, and litigation phobia. (It was first published way before 1985...I believe the '85 version is the paperback.)

This book makes me laugh out loud and remember the freedom which we once enjoyed as Americans. Truly a great work, and funny every time you read it. Every household should have a copy, if for no other reason than to offend fretful, prudish parents and mortify those in our society who would control every one of our thoughts and actions to their satisfaction.

I love the irreverant style with which Shel Silverstein writes. My 5th and 6th grade students have loved it too. I'm so happy to be able to replace the book which was stolen. My husband grew up with this book and was like a little kid when it came. My favorite letter is E for Ernie, the genie who lives in the ceiling and will catch an egg if you throw it up to him.

The book pretends to be written for children and I would like to see the hilariously awful results if it were mistaken as such. In fact, imagining those results is the entire point.

The book was in an ok condidtion, but it was great for the price. It came in a reasonable amount of time.

I used to read them all the time when i was a kid. they are funny and help your reading skills. so i got them for my kids. the funny thing is that just after i went on ebay i found my books. lol.

Forget the sappiness of The Giving Tree. This is my favorite Shel Silverstein read. If clever is what you're inclined to appreciate than this is a must have for a humor collection. I discovered this book about 10 years ago and the mere mention of it brings to mind my favorite alphabet letters - Silverstein style. It's a favorite gift I have never tired of giving.
