Ultraman - Series 1: Vol. 1 (DVD, 2006, 3-Disc Set)

The classic 1966 version of ULTRAMAN, as you remember it except BETTER! This box set, unlike the old version that used to be played on TV, is UNEDITED with Ultra-fight footage never shown before in America. Not only that, but you can watch it in English just like you used to do, OR see it IN ITS ORIGINAL JAPANESE FORMAT with English subtitles!! Great fun listening to the original voices. I can't recommend this enough!! I myself have waited decades for this to be released. A fantastic job done on this fan-favorite series!

Most excellent DVD .Circa 1966? I think - i dunno I was still runnin around the house wanting to be batman. But when Kyoto sets off the beta capsule -look out -its lights out for the guy in that monster rubber suit. How hot was it in those suits anyway. I mean wouldn't that be against actor rights today. Wouldn't they organize a giant walkout and picket in front of japanese business' "We won't wear rubber suits anymore" "Ultraman hits too damn hard" etc.
Seriously, these creators of Ultraman and Johnny Sako were true pioneers. I dont wanna hear any crap about Speilberg or Lucas!!! No they were runnin around there houses probably wanting to be "Robin-the boy wonder" (smallest super hero I ever seen by the way)
Forget Starwars as being the pioneer sci-fi movie. No my friends -its was Ultraman!! From the detail scale models of city's to the monsters. And NO ANIMATRONICS BACK THEN FOLKS!!
As I wolfed down my jumbo bag of Pop Secret (butter flavored)trying to ignore the boring eyes of my two labs who pounce at the first sighting of a fallen morsel that missed my hungry mouth) I tried my best to find flaws in the cast, dialogue, and or props - NON WHAT SO EVER!! No incomplete buildings -no gaps in the monsters suits-even guide wires were only minimal. Funny I just watched the last Star Wars dvd again and was shocked to detect (WITH EASE) barely mid-level scale model builders errors! 40 yrs later -you'd think they would be undetectable.
Clearly Japan was the man!! America the woman (sorry ladies) This series on dvd still captures, entertains, and excites this viewer 43 yrs later!! I'd recommend any up and coming movie making student to view this dvd before jumping into all the quick C.G. stuff.
This was grass roots entertainment at its best!!

Nothing better than a clear visual of foggy childhood past. For year afflicted with bad VHS copies, I refused to watch, now this is the closest thing to my memories, plus it has cut into it the original Japanese scenes deleted for American TV, you will know when the Audio is in Japanese and the subititles come up, it's like a built in secret scene you never kewn was there, so it freshens this old mans experience. Plus, its super-kid-friendly, coming out in 1966-67, nothing fo rme to worry about with my 3 year old daughter watching, she loves it, we have to sit down and watch 3 episodes a night, and with a quick episode running time, your not worn out in the end or bored. Get it, it's 99.9% better than any kids show today.

My son who's four years old, stared getting interested in Godzilla and monsters and one night I started thinking about my hero when I was 5 years old, and of course Ultraman came to mind. I had no idea if I could find anything and when I put his name on ebay I was surprised to find that they had the dvd set, that came out this year. So we bought it. I love it and so does my son. It is a good version of the show I used to love so much. The only bad thing about it is that sometimes, they forgot to dub or they just decided it was easier that way, so you are listening to it in English and then suddenly they are talking in Japenese and you have the subtitle, but it usually lasts for about 1 minute or 2 at the max, so my son doesn't mind. Other than that, the colors are good and it is a good trip down memory lane. And now my son can also enjoy my hero...

It was a tv series i used to watch as a kid. I bought it so i could see it again and so i could show my kids what kind of shows i watched as a kid. was excellent

I grew up with ULTRAMAN, it's one of my most beautiful memories of my childhood. I was waiting for this moment to have a chance to own this collection. It's a real CLASSIC!!!!

Great product. Old show from childhood. Product plays great and was factory sealed. Highly Recommend if you watched this show in the 60's.

Took me back to my childhood when there weren't a hundred different kids shows to pick from. I loved Ultraman then and he's still great to watch. My five year old watches with me. These movies are great quality. I did not think I would ever see an episode of ultraman again. If you watched as a kid, you'll love it.

Excellent video. It really took me back to the days when I was a kid sitting in front of the television with my brother watching Ultraman.

I went to A godzilla-themed convention over the weekend of July 4th, and a merchant was selling Series 1 volume 2 for $19.99. When I got home, I checked on Ebay to find Series 1 Vol 1. I found it for a great price. Now I have the complete series.
The package was sent fast, and arrived in great shape. It was of the same quality as the one i bought at the convention. It was still in its shrink wrap. I was overjoyed to be able to buy the item like i did.
Overall, there really wasn't anything that i disliked about it.

Oh my gosh!!! This takes me back to my youth. One day, Ultraman will be considered a cult classic. There will be Ultraman parties. Not sure about Ultraman conventions. These are the television shows from the mid-1960's and they look it. The show was created by the same man who worked on the special effects on the original Godzilla movie from 1954 with Raymond Burr. The monsters in these shows are so lame its what makes these shows so great - the saying its so bad its good definitely applies here. And the story line are predictable and lame as well. They usually go - alien monster crash lands on Earth starts to destroy everything, Space Patrol members that are suppose to have the latest weaponry to protect mankind can't do a thing to stop them, member os Space Patrol team transforms into Ultraman and saves the day. The only thing that changes from show to show are the monsters which are so clearly actors in costumes that that just adds to the campiness. If you enjoy It Is So Bad It Is Good entertainment this is a MUST have.

i really loved to watch ultraman when i was a little. Because i decided to buy ultraman dvds that i missed some eposides and attended school. However, the dvds doesn't sound English audio that they alway had Japanese audio all the way. So, i have to look at the captions.

i love the original concept of the disc.i mean the whole entire series. the only dislike was it should have been shown as the show i grew up with as a kid. what i mean is the opening credits. other than that i extremely love it!!! thank you very,very much!!! from, timothy smith(timsmith2009)

I bought this because I used to watch it on TV when I was a kid. It's one of my favorite shows from "back in the day".

When I opened the package that the DVD's came in it instantly brought back tons and tons of childhood memories! Thank you!

this is an absolute must for all fans of japanese monsters . if you like godzilla and gamara than this will entertain you more than satisfactorily . this is an original tv show from japan , each episode is a complete story in which at lease one monster is defeated . the science force has a member that can turn into ultraman due to som secret alien device he possesses . just great watch . this is the first 20 episodes out of 39 total from japan .

A "MUST HAVE" if you ever liked Ultraman as a kid. It's one of those timeless classic TV shows that brings out the "kid in you"!
I own a Ultraman pachinko machine and by watching all of the shows, it explains who all of the villians as well as the good guys are.

IF your a fan of Japanese monster movies such as Godzilla or Rodan then you will love this show. Created by the same man who created Godzilla for the big screen. The costumes on this series are cheaply made and the plots are basically the same for every episode. But is still fun to watch. The only real problem is with the quality of the DVD itself. The audio and subtitles change several times at random as you're watching the show. Maybe just a bad disc in my set, maybe not. Overall it is fun to watch and it brings back fond memories of seeing this show when I was a child.
