Dr. Phil McGraw is a psychologist with a number of books under his belt.
In The Ultimate Weight Solution Dr. Phil lighten up from his book, Self Matters. His Dr. Phil isms come out in his famous words like "you either get it or you don't" "get real." The Ultimate Solution gives tools, techniques and real hands on work that he believes has cracked the code to overeating.

Dr. Phil's emphasis on working from the inside out rather then the outside in makes perfect sense once you read the book. Dr. Phil makes the point that you can choose to think the cake looks delicious and eat two slices or you can take a bite and say that was good. He works with us to figure out why it is that we cannot stop at that one bite and unlike a medical doctor he does so from a psychologist's standpoint. For example, he makes the point that we, for the most part, can't just stop eating. Most of us will need to replace food with something else.

The book is chock full of information and tools. It has three parts. In Part One "Unlocking the Doors to Permanent Weight Loss" he starts telling us that we need to think differently. He goes into great detail in this section and some of it will be boring. He makes the point, though, not to skip over anything. I found his hands-on techniques and approaches very helpful in Part One. He has us answering questions in the book like a manual or workbook would do. One question for example is "Describe what you will do (the behaviors or actions you must commence, change, or stop in order to lose weight" and there are lines to fill in your answer.

Part Two is the very important 7 Keys to Permanent Weight Loss. Although he summarizes them nicely in Part One, this is where he goes into detail about every key.

This book focuses on what your internal dialogue is that is keeping you overeating. You’ll find tables in this section that are very helpful.

I think that most of us will be able to identify with much of this book. He will have you analyzing and responding to your self talk in chart form. One of the reasons for his questionnaire asking if you are ready is because this is work.

A few points that Dr. Phil makes in his book:
1. Get rid of clothes that are too large on you. Plan to never fit in them again.
2. Realize that you may not be hungry, you may be sad or lonely.
3. Recognize impulse eating such as eating late at night. Identify when you do the most damage to yourself and take a bubble bath.
4. Willpower is a myth. Everyone has January firsts.
5. Make a deal with yourself such as you can't watch television until you've taken a walk.

I had the wonderful experience of receiving this book as a Christmas gift. I found it to be very enlightening & full of ways to help me lose weight! Having been on the "dieting circuit" for quite a while, I was desperate to find that "one" secret that would make it all worth it! After reading this book, I have learned that the "one" isn't real! I am "the one", that has the power within me to get the weight off & keep it off!
I did learn all of this in "The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution" by Dr. Phil McGraw...I believe the reason this book works, is the 7 keys that he uses
to get you motivated...1st. He teaches you how to unlock the doors to PERMANENT WEIGHTLOSS...2nd. You use the 7 keys & learn how to manage your life & your weight...they go hand in hand & this book taught me that my weight can be managed not "cured"...he has powerful insights...& a proven method, that I am proud to say I am witness to! I have actually lost 98 pounds using Dr. Phils book & the proven methods there-in...give it a chance, your worth it.

As a fan of the Dr. Phil television show, I was most interested in reading his book on weight loss since he devoted an entire year to it on his show. The book is quite informative, giving the reader specific techniques in making weight loss a life change instead of another diet to try and perhaps fail. Dr. Phil specifies these specific techniques as well as an array of food to eat to ward off hunger. For the person desirous of losing weight and making a life change to do so, this is definitely a must read book!

This book really takes a look at the psychological reasons for overeating and offers REAL solutions to changing bad habits. I have been struggling with my weight my entire life and have tried every diet known to man. They all work for a while, but sooner than later, the will-power runs out and the binge-eating and depression return. It's a vicious cycle! This book really deals with the reasons why we overeat and helps you pinpoint those triggers that cause you to revert back to old habits. It's a great book and so far I have lost 20 pounds (& I'm only half-way through it)!

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS BOOK IS HE IS SO TO THE POINT. TOUCHES BASE ON JUST ABOUT EVERY DOUBT OR THOUGHT YOU HAVE ABOUT THE DIETING PROCESS AND FAILURES. I LOVE DR. PHIL AND HIS SHOW BUT THIS BOOK JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW KNOWLEDEABLE HE IS AND WHY HE DOES WHAT HE DOES SO WELL. GREAT BOOK!

I decided to buy it b/c I've seen Dr. Phil on television and believe that he has been able to help lots of people with their weight-loss problems. He writes very honestly and doesn't let the reader get away with making excuses, which is great. The book is easy to read but incredibly helpful and informative.

I wanted to buy this book because I need to lose weight and do not particularly agree with diet pills. I feel like I am in a place in my life that this information can benefit me. No matter where you are at in your life it is difficult to lose weight. This book has a lot of great and important information. Dr. Phil breaks it down into matter of fact points. He wants to get it across. It isn't difficult for me to understand. I have enjoyed it so far, and it has helped me to get mine and my family's eating habits greatly improved.

I originally bought this book because it was priced so well on ebay and I need to loose some weight so I thought what the heck. I did not expect it to be so good. Let’s face it Dr. Phil is kind of Pop culture feel good psychiatrist. I usually avoid pop culture kind of stuff, I don’t even watch TV!

Anyhow Dr. Phil actually gets down to the nitty gritty of why we are overweight and looking at how we can change to loose weight and become healthier. Not just another diet book that tells you what to eat and to exercise. We all know how to loose weight, it is the messages we tell ourselves and how we see ourselves which keeps us from our goal. He goes through chapters covering 7 key issues we need resolve to loose weight. He stresses that you must complete all 7 keys to master food and impulse eating. Even before finishing the book I found myself thinking about food and weight loss differently. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for real answers to weight loss.

I really enjoy the insightful INNER work that come with the idea of permanent weight loss. Lots of good help for living a healthier life for the rest of your life.

I'm tired of weight loss books from people who haven't had to struggle with their weight. There are the usual "discover why are you eating?" questions in his book, but I'd rather hear from someone who actually lost the weight and knows the pitfalls than from someone who is operating from the land of "I can eat whatever I want, but I'll tell you how to lose weight."

This book was excellent! It covered everything I have ever heard about weight loss and wondered if it were really true. This book took my through the process of identifying my own problem areas that I had no idea were problem areas. This book gave me the knowledge to turn my battle with my weight around. Before I have even finished the book I had lost eight pounds. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a solution to their weight loss struggle.

I Think it would help if the old Dr. weighed hummmm....let's say 160lbs instead of 220lbs. This is a fair question, no? I mean: would you buy home made shampoos or other hair products from a bald guy?(just giving you an example) So why then would you buy a weight loss solutions book from a guy that's overweight. I'll tell you the solution and its really simple, cuz i've done it and I went from 190lbs to 155 in about 6 weeks. I'm also 5'11". It was not easy but the solution was mind-numbingly simple. You probably guessed what I did. I didn't eat anything. Do you know what a liquid diet is? It's the closest thing to not eating. Just have a diet shakes twice a day, one that's packed with vitamins. You can also invest in a rice cooker and steam up some vegetables. But remember this; if you eat anything other than what i've said such as anything that has sugar, oil, or salt, you can kiss my method goodbye cuz it wont work. It all depends on you. You must fight with you brain and not let that instinctual hungry area of your mind run your life. If you are weak in will power or are not a 110% not commited, this will not work for you. Because, in the end, you are ultimately the strongest diet solution out there.

This book demonstrates what we like about Dr. Phil McGraw. His common sense approach to weight loss is unique in the weight loss industry. He helps us look at the causes why we eat as well as what we eat. Weight loss starts with the right attitude and Dr. Phil helps us realize that what we eat does not define us. No wonder why this book was atop the best seller lists for many weeks. It is a proven approach to weight loss.

I have been wondering why Dr. Phill. would write a book about weight loss, and what he had to say. It has some very good points, and they are right in line with todays diet plans. There are few things that I question about the book and wonder why he had to add them. Overall it seems to be a good book.

Dr. Phil is a no nonsene, tell it like it is kinda guy! I read most of his books. The thing I like best about his style is that he believes in personal responsibility in all that we do. Great read for all who want to get fit and stay fit!

I have been wanting to buy this book for a while now, and did when I got a really good deal here on e-bay. I was very disappointed when I started reading it. It is just another boring, dull "diet book". I love Dr. Phil, and watch his show as much as I can, but he repeats himself over and over again in this book, taking about “getting real” and “you know what I’m talking about”, blaa blaa blaa… I read the first few pages and haven’t touched it since. Dr. Phil, get real, and bring some pep into dieting...

The book is very down to earth and inspirational. I just wish I could stick to it. I bought it because it was recommended by my husband's ENT doctor. She said that he had to lose weight or die an early death. She also said that she had lost 30 pounds by following Dr. Phil's advice.

I loved all of the advice about how to stay away from unhealthy foods. However, the list of items to buy at the grocery store is extremely expensive. I realize sometimes diets can cost more than normal, but it should be able to fit the budget of an average American

Dr Phil does a fine job here creating a plan for changing how you think about yourself and about the food you eat. This is not a diet - but a life changing plan. It is not a get skinny quick plan - you need to examine your life as well as your eating habits.

I bought this book for guidance for my New Year's resolution. And so far it is working! This book breaks weight loss down into a very manageable and reasonable program. It's all pretty much basic common sense stuff but Dr. Phil just puts in a way that makes sense and actually seems attainable. Thanks Dr. Phil!

I bought the book because I am always looking for ways to improve me, my way of thinking and to rid myself of negative feelings about me. Of course, I want to learn to eat for the right reasons, instead of eating to meet an emotional need. So far, I am enjoying the book...it does read like a self-help book so a person needs to make it interesting for them ownself. It won't caption your attention but there is good information in there which one can apply to many aspects of one's own life.
