Barry Manilow's commercial heyday may have been confined from the mid-'70s to early '80s, but the true testament to his unflagging popularity is the fact that this 2002 compilation debuted in the Top 5 of Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart. This 20-pack of classic pop features all of the Brooklyn native's big hits starting with the 1974 chart-topper "Mandy" right through to 1982's "Somewhere Down The Road". Anyone who remotely remembers the '70s will feel like they've stepped into a time machine when they hear radio staples like "It's A Miracle", "Looks Like We Made It", "Can't Smile Without You" and "Copacabana (At The Copa)".
Widely recognized for multiple talents that include formidable musical chops, production skills, and song writing, Manilow's genius can be heard in his use of a Chopin prelude in "Could It Be Magic," and in the melancholy "When October Goes," featuring Johnny Mandel lyrics donated by his widow. Manilow's eye for a great song also found him scoring great chart success with songs written by others including Beach Boy Bruce Johnston's "I Write The Songs" and former Mott The Hoople frontman Ian Hunter's "Ships".

I have always loved Manilow's music and enjoy playing it myself on my grandmother's baby grand piano. I bought this CD so I can now enjoy the same Manilow music as I travel to and from work. It is very enjoyable music that is easy to listen to and the words have meaning.

I bought this Barry Manilow CD because I am an avid karaoke singer, and entertainer. There was a Barry Manilow song that I heard that I wanted to learn so I bought the CD to learn one song. What I really like is that there are so many other songs on it that I never heard and now like and will have to learn so I can sing them when I go out: also it was conveniently at my fingertips to buy, and the price I paid was great! I'll play this CD in my truck over and over until I learn it well enough where I feel comfortable enough to sing it infront of people. What I don't like about this CD is that there are so. . . many songs on that CD that I would like to learn today, but it seems so long for me just to learn one or two in a week.

What a Great cd! It really brings back some memories! All the songs I love and remember in 1. I didn't have to get a bunch of cd's and to have the songs I wanted.

This is SUCH a great cd. My friend got one, & I borrowed it & knew I had to get my own. It is just full of his fabulous songs, & I listen to it all the time!

Jimmy Buffet fans are called "Parrot Heads". The Grateful Dead fans are called "Dead Heads". But for the millions of us that grew up listening to pop music of the 1970's, we are called "FANILOWS" for our love of the true King of Pop, Barry Manilow. No one could turn on a televison or a radio during the 70's and not help but hear something Barry Manilow created, from his hit songs like Mandy, I Write The Songs, and Weekend In New England to commerical jingles like those of State Farm Insurance, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Alka Seltzer. Barry is a major reason why us children of the 70's fell in love with our signficant others. This cd brings back all those good times and relives them for us all. Barry's music will stand the test of time.

This CD was wonderful. it was the best group of songs Barry could have put on a cd. There were even some I have never heard, as well as some not as well known. This is a must buy. When i listen to this it's more than just his voice, it's the instrumental behind his voice that also speaks to me.

After seeing a PBS special with Barry Manilow, it rekindled my love of his old songs. The selection on this CD was great and i have already listened to it over and over again. Loved it!!

This is classic Manilow. This CD takes you back in time when music was alive. The classic "Mandy" will never grow old in my mind and the hits keep fklowing from there. A "must have" for Manilow fans.

I decided to buy this cd after I found out that tickets to see his show were so expensive. This particular one has all of my favorite sings and it was a good price.

I love this CD, has every song I wanted! A must if you are a Fanilow! I saw him in concert and he sang every song. Whenever I listen to this CD,I feel like I am back at the concert!

Normally I buy a CD if I like 2-3 songs on it. On this CD, I like 18 of 20 songs! It was a really good buy for me. It is great to listen to a CD where it is a pleasure to tune into all songs. Instead of thinking that "now it's only three more songs before the one comes I like".

This release only gets PART of the 'Manilow experience' - where's "Read 'Em And Weep", "Some Kind Of Friend", "Lonely Together", "Let's Hang On", "I Don't Want To Walk Without You", "I'm Your Man", "One Voice", "You're Lookin' Hot Tonight", and the duet with Ronnie Milsap "Put A Quarter In The Jukebox?" I tell you where - either "The Essential Barry Manilow" (Arista/Legacy Records, 2005), or "Greatest Hits, Vol. II" (Arista Records, 1983, which is now out of print.) Stay with "The Essential", or the out of print 1978 "Greatest Hits", and 1983's "Greatest Hits, Vol. II" for the FULL 'Manilow hit experience!'
