The Ultimate Book Of Homeschooling Ideas presents over 500 creative and enjoyable learning activities specifically designed for use by homeschooling parents (any parent, teacher, grandparent, etc... could use these great ideas!).
Her first chapter does focus on homeschooling, as she talks about some key factors between public schools and homeschooling. There is some very interesting information in this! The rest of the book is a wonderful collection of ideas on how to help children learn, from reading, to math, to character building, and other facets of a child's education.
This book has more activities in it than anyone could possibly do. It gives many ideas to choose from based on subject. She does not sort into age groups which is great if you want to find an activity for all your children then "adjust" the activity to fit each child's level.
The learning activities include flash card games, creating a map based on a book, a pocket alphabet banner for pre-readers, learning the basics about DNA, a math game using Lego's and so much more. Each of these ideas consists of a brief overview & general suggestions, with the specifics of the application being implied or left up to the adult. Even if you are not a homeschooler these are activities you can do with your children during school breaks/Holidays, during summer vacation or anytime for that matter (I can see many great "Family Nights" with some of these ideas!).
There were ideas and activities that to me were pretty basic, but all in all this was a very good book. If you are unsure whether or not you would really like to spend the money on this book, check it out at your local library first and see what you think!!
