The original Ultima I was a pioneering product that established a new standard in fantasy role-playing games. Reviving the classic RPG several years later, this 1986 remake by Origin improves upon the original RPG by Sir Lord British (aka Richard Garriott) with rewritten game code (programmed in Assembly) and all-new graphics.
For many years, the Lands of Britannia prospered and flourished under the benevolent rule of Lord British. Unbeknownst to the inhabitants of Britannia, the evil wizard Mondain was slowly strengthening his magical powers and increasing his hoards of foul denizens -- patiently awaiting the proper time to seize the lands. Through subtle exertions of his magical power, Mondain was able to stir dissident among the Lords of the land and render them ineffective by factional wars. Then, he did release his minions upon Britannia and crush the people beneath his evil will. And thus the First Era of the Dark Ages came upon the Lands of Britannia.
Who among you will rise to the challenge of the evil Wizard? Who will brave the darkest depths of the earth and farthest reaches of outer space? Who will track the foul Mondain to his hidden lair and put an end to the darkness he has cast upon Britannia? The Ultimate Quest awaits you!
