This is the phone to have

Well after deciding that I wanted to go the PDA route for a phone I picked up this one. This is by far one of the better purchases I have made.

Pros
****
-Full slide out QWERTY keyboard
-Great Screen
-Windows Mobile 5
-Great Contact List, To-Do
-Full access to text, picture messages and Email
-Easily sync's up with Desktop/Laptop Computer

Cons
****
-Size and weight can be a pain to get used to if you are used to a smaller more nimble phone
-Unable to be use wireless signal and phone at same time-right out of box.

This is the phone that is able to take care of all your needs. Any known issues with it are easy to fix and get around with a few quick and easy registry changes. Making the phone able to use wireless and phone at same time, adjusting volume output of speaker, using phone for modem for internet access either via USB connection or Bluetooth.

I would have to highly recommend this phone for anyone who is looking for a Windows based device and phone all wrapped up into one. The internet is fast through the Verizon digital and EVDO network, easy to use phone!

  Great Phone

This phone has alot of bells and whistles. I have a very good to excellent opinion about it. It is user friendly gor the most part. You will need to utilize the voice command feature when driving. It takes a steady hand to dial numbers. I am also very careful with this phone due to the sensitive screen. Overall this is a great phone with tons of features. I bought it for the pda features, because I did not want to carry another electronic device.

  Nice!

s a pocket PC, it is excellent. Great for internet. The keyboard is almost ideal. darkness makes things a little complicated when typing your first character Great for txt, email, and internet. File storage and manuverablility is a little iffy.
As a phone it is garbage. The touch screen phone is retarded. speaker is very poor fidelity and very quiet. sound controls are also iffy. The product itself is excellent, the OS is the problem. im hoping a new version wil come soon and realize more of this PDA's potential.
I did like it enough to add a phone line for it (i had to go back to my motorla v710 for phone use). I find it very convenient having a text line and a voice line. Interruptions while texting was a hassle, No longer. Finally, being a Microsoft product, there are a few random OS quirks, causing freezes, shutdowns, and loss of data, but not enough to discourage buying one (i doubt it fails anymore than your PC).
...if you're wondering, i havent found any bluetooth functionality beyond a headset. Wifi is still a total mystery to me.

oh yeah, you cant sort your address book by first name. being the standard for cel phones, that takes a little getting used to. it has a good search function with helps a lot with this short comming.

  Great Buy for Any Use
Review created: 05/10/08

I bought the UTStarcom XV6700 about two months ago to replace an older Samsung with no real features. Setup was a breeze and I brought it to the Verizon store to get reactivated, no hiccups there either. Watch out though, I had no plans on getting a data package with the phone (Internet access) and they added it to my plan without telling me, just because the phone had the capability (~$50 a month). I am not sure how well it works; I cancelled that feature when I got last month’s bill.

The phone is loaded with great features and is easy to learn. The Today screen (the default view) is relatively customizable, and features like calendar display the days events and may make the front page overwhelming if you write a lot on the calendar. There are free programs out there to add features, such as adobe reader. The version for windows mobile 6 works great.

I use the phone mainly as a phone and day planner, but I do store papers that I am writing on the device. Word works great and makes it easy to continue working on papers away from my computer. Adding a memory stick is a must! Documents and the lot can fit on the phones internal memory, but I also carry around music on the phone, which would not fit normally.

Overall I give the phone a 4/5. I love it to death, but there are a few things that could be better. People sound quiet and become hard to hear in any noisy environment when used as a phone. The original battery lasts FOREVER (even when playing music)! I bought an extended battery and have yet to use it. The phone features could be better. It requires using the stylus to type in numbers; my fingers are too big to push the buttons easily. I found the user manual helpful and active sync is a must. The first time I plugged the phone into my computer the time was adjusted to fit the new daylight savings time schedule. The phone is well worth the money (and is cheaper than a regular phone).

I could not be more happy with this purchase! The XV6700 is a fantastic phone with full PocketPC capabilities. There is a LOT of information available on the Web on way to make this phone perform even better. I fought getting a phone/pim device for a long time. I'm glad I finally took the plunge!

  verizon xv6700
Review created: 03/10/07

for those who are heavy PDA users and do not need a one-hand operation phone, xv6700 is a best choice. Compare to Treo 700w and treo 700wx, the xv6700 has better memory capacity and more important, it has a higher screen resolution which is compatible with most applications out there while the treo isn't.

Samsung i730 has a more powerful processor, same screen resolution as the xv6700 but it drains battery so quickly, and it looks bulky as well.

My unit can last a day on 1 charge with the standard battery, but with a 3200mA extended battery from seidio, it can last up to 4 days! That's amazing

one of the cons of xv6700 is the way verizon set up wi-fi. wi-fi only works when the phone is off and when you turn off wi-fi, the phone is still off unless you remember to turn it back on! But this problem can be fixed only with a simple registry edit.

This is a great combination of phone, pda and ipod. All the features work very well together. I like the fact that it's small and compact, yet sometimes it seems too small. It seems a little slow and lags on some screens sometimes. I have to press the reset button a lot. It is nice to have wireless and bluetooth. The slide open keyboard is handy. I love writing text messages b/c I just write what I want on the screen. I can't get any special ringtones for particular callers. It is super sturdy and uses standard mini usb plugs which is great. I charged it one time while I was away with someone's printer cable.
All in all I love it, but I konw the future will hold better models.

wifi , stereo bluetooth, touch screen ,qwerty keyboard, and best of all window mobile, thanks to ppcgeeks and others, this phone never gets outdated, tons for stuff available to burn on this phone and most all free,

better windows phones out there but for the price, u cant beat it.

Have had this type phone for three years and its still better than the three updated phones my daughter has had to have.

works seamlessly with windows .

I only pay $10/mo for this phone on verizon since i dont use their wireless internet , can hookup almost anywhere there is wifi with this phone for free.

I like the fact that it does everything you need it to on the go, the only downfall is that while it does everything, it cannot keep up with itself, and freezes up - have to do a soft-reset to get it to function again. I bought it, because it am never home, always traveling, had it a month, and sold it.

Phone has lots of features and I really enjoy the wi-fi. Phone convo could be better, often the touch screen opens other programs while you are talking on the phone and will even disconnect you. Layout, texting etc are all great the only downer is the accidental hang up stemming from your ear touching the screen sometimes.

My husband needed a phone with larger buttons for checking e-mail, etc. He is not an "electronics" person at all, so this phone is difficult for him to figure out and he gets frustrated. This phone does have many, many features. Verizon says that it is not as "user friendly" as some of their other smart phones/pda's. Great phone for someone who needs all of the features, too much phone for someone who just wants to check e-mail, do instant messaging, and talk.

Great Phone for a Great Price
Review created: 07/25/07
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Pros - Interface, features, moddability. There is little I can't do with this phone and a little internet searching.

Cons - Battery life, crashes once or twice a week and requires a soft reboot.

Other - I had an issue for two days after I got it where I was unable to receive incoming calls. I am not sure if this was due to my phone or Verizon (they couldn't figure it out either when I brought it in to them). After a little tweaking and probably a lot of luck everything went back to normal and it has worked perfectly since then.

  UTStarcom XV6700 (Verizon or Sprint)

The XV6700 Pocket PC and phone is not the absolute latest in technology, but that makes this model relatively affordable on Ebay. They come with WM5, but you can find a lot of info on the net about upgrading to WM6.1, and I highly recommend the upgrade. The XV6700 (found on Ebay) amd a data plan from Sprint or Verizon is a great way to start your PPC experience without having to sign a two year contract.

This is a great phone with alot of features easy to send text messages dude to the slide out keyboard, Has alot of memory all your windows software bundled. The only problem is if you dont lock it when in your purse or pocket it has a mind of it own and starts to dial people due to the touchscreen features. Overall a wonderful toy for us adults.

  First ebay purchase
Review created: 07/11/08
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Our daughter shattered her cell phone and needed a replacement. A techie recommended the XV6700 and ebay provided an efficient way to locate a quality "like new" phone. This was our first transaction on ebay and paypal and it was relatively easy to complete. The phone was exactly as promised and the user LOVES it. We choose "buy it" which surprised the seller. Having earlier gotten outbid at a price well over the "buy it now" price this method just seemed easier. My only dislike is the time to actually receive the purchase. Next time a purchase is made, special handling may be more practical. This purchase was very painless.

  XV6700 REVIEW
Review created: 04/30/08

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I researched this phone extensively before I bought it, so I loved it before I got it!!! The main reason I bought it is because it has wifi, it has good connectivity, and good range. It is also suprisingly quick for a handheld!!! Other than that it has all of the features that you would expect a cell phone to have. That being said it is a whole lot of phone for just anybody, I have a vast knowledge of computers, and electronics in general, and I still have problems remembering how to do things on it. If you a computer illiterate this phone is definately not for you!!! The slide out keyboard is a nice feature that provides plenty of room for people like me whom have fat fingers!!! I love this phone, it is comperable to an iphone, but with windows mobile you can add 3 party software which you cant do with an iphone!!! That is all I can think of, hope this helped!!!

Steer clear if you want something reliable or buy new
Review created: 01/02/08

I had this for a month and went back to my old phone(lg8300). A minor issue is the size. With the extended battery, which is almost necessary, it's a tank. But the REAL problem is the lock-ups. I turn the phone off. I turn it back on. The VZW screen appears. The Windows Mobile screen then appears. And sits. AND SITS.
Also, you can be in the middle of a basic process such as checking your contacts, and it will freeze(happened to me). Then you have to pop out the battery and repower the player. And it will likely sit. Some people I know who have newer smartphones don't have to deal with this.
Overall I'd say just buy a normal flip/bar/slide phone and buy a pda on the side because if your smartphone locks up that means you can NOT make calls.
