While they share a likeness to other lo-fi, poppy garage-punk revivalists such as caUSE co-MOTION!, bratty Detroit outfit Tyvek displays a spirited minimalism reminiscent of Wire and other boundary-pushing genre pioneers. A number of songs on their self-titled full-length are the musical analog to a Simpsons episode, starting off-centeredly around one idea before bursting into an entirely different, slightly more manic outburst. The phenomenal re-edit of "Building Burning" kicks off with an almost sarcastic, low-end-driven jaunt with off-kilter lyrics to match ("Upstairs, downstairs/Lost my footing/Building Burning") before crashing into an adolescent clamor that secretly teems with the sophistication of intelligent songwriters who favor feverish simplicity. TYVEK is raw, weird, and a perfect antidote to maudlin college rock.
