Two Old Women by Velma Wallis

In a time when I do not see reverence or respect paid to our older populace, this book really says it all. It addresses a grandson and daughter allowing the tribe to allow their own grandmother and another lady who is old but not yet by any means incapable to be left behind during the harsh winter Alaskan months. These two women find within themselves prior knowledge and expertise to not only survive but to prosper in the hardest of times. And yet when they have a chance to save their own tribal members, they do so....
I recall a story of the elderly peoples acknowledging their "drain" on the tribe and allowing themselves to go out with the break up of the river into the great beyond of ice flowing out to sea.
I am personally involved in a historic lawsuit to maintain health benefits for the retirees of Orange County, CA. You see, we paid in for over 20 plus years to fund our medical plan at a higher rate so that those that had already retired could continue to have benefits. Now we have been forced into a separate pool with exorbitant rates and even though I have been near death twice, I am forced to look for work or not be able to afford my health insurance and copays.
I also will dig deep within myself and trust in the Lord and my own abilities to come up with a solution.
This book was a personal inspiration to me and I recommend it highly to all!
