SCARLET DIVA: The debut film effort from celebrity horror director Dario Argento's daughter, Asia Argento, SCARLET DIVA is a rambunctious, egocentric vanity project shot on digital video. The sassy and erotic Argento conjures a meandering and brashly compelling world of violence, sex, drugs, and rock and roll, with herself at the center playing an alter ego, Anna Battista. Following Battista, a celebrated and debauched actress, through her breakneck adventures, the crisply photographed film evokes the fast-cut style of music videos. As the wildly inventive plot veers towards the fantastical, Argento shines as the hard-living Battista who withstands myriad sexual liaisons, pesky adoration from fans, award ceremonies, lecherous producers, and the heartbreak of being abandoned by a drug-addicted rock star whose baby she is carrying. The futuristic urban soap opera inventively melds satire, melodrama, and fantasy film to create a highly personal and visionary narrative that reflects the disintegrating boundaries of media and morals heralded by the arrival of the 21st century.
LOVE BITES: Part black comedy and part atmospheric horror film, LOVE BITES (LES MORSURES DE L'AUBE) satirizes the narcissistic aspects of European culture. Antoine (Guilliaume Canet) is a Parisian social leech whose obsession with the latest popular nightclubs has him leading a life of poverty: he sleeps at the local gym, where all of his possessions fit neatly into a single locker. Usually able to talk his way into any super-cool establishment, Antoine runs into one club where the bouncers are more reluctant than usual. He makes the mistake of invoking the name of Jordan Charlier, a legendary party promoter, which leads the club owner to offer him a million francs to locate the now-reclusive Jordan. When Antoine agrees, his investigations lead him to a world of underground sex clubs where Jordan's sister Violaine (Asia Argento) holds sway with a hypnotic power and a penchant for biting the necks of her lovers....LOVE BITES is a stylish and atmospheric French horror-comedy.
